I drive a 1992 F350 four door longbed and the knuckle on the output shaft for the transfer case that goes to my front driveline busted today on the road and rendered my transfer case useless. I have a 1990 F250 and I need to know if the transfer case from it is interchangeable with the 1992 F350. I do know for sure that the dead transfercase is a 1356.

the yoke itself broke? or the ujoint let go? If the yoke, how the hell does that happen driving down the road?

yeah it was the yoke itself that broke... I'm pretty sure that some of the bolts must've been loose holding the front driveline to the yoke and it seemed as though it worked itself loose and then got enough torque somehow while it was wobbling out to break the yoke. I suppose it's possible the U-joint let go also but it wasn't broken... was just missing the caps that the needle bearings go in when I got out and looked at it after the breakdown.

I don't think the yoke was specific to the F350. I pulled the one on my F250 and set them up next to each other. Both yokes looked the same and had the same numbers on them. In any case I was able to get the F350 fixed by using the yoke out of the F250 and the driveline out of the F250 also. I think the driveline in the F350 was still ok to use but I'm going to have a driveline shop take a look at it first because it bent the bolts pretty bad where it was bolted up to the yoke on the transfer case.

*IF* the F250 and F350 have D60's under the fronts, they are the same.
otherwise, they are very different. see pics. in all pics, the yoke on the right is for D60 the one on the left is for D50.
