tach problems

85 6.9. The tach doesn't move until it revs up around 2000 RPM. Is the sensor usually the problem? Does it get "fuzzy" like an ABS sensor and work after cleaning? Is that it on the timing cover?

That's it on the timing cover. Interested in the answer to your other question since I have a similar issue.

Yes, that's it on the timing cover. Will it clean up and work properly again? Only sometimes, and then probably not for too long.
