To make a long-ish story shorter, the instructor in my Diesel Performance & Diagnosis instructor swears up and down that in the 93-94 IDI's and Turbo Diesels used a Stanadyne DS pump on them like the GM 6.5L Turbo.
I say nay nay. I always thought that ALL IDI's and Mechanical Turbo Diesels used the DB-2.

My question to the OB community: Who's right here, me, or the instructor?:dunno

I think there are some differences in settings between the n/a and turbo IDI's, but they all used the same basic DB2 pump. There was never an electronically controlled pump on the IDI like the later 6.5l's had.

FWIW the 6.2l/6.5l pumps spin the opposite direction compared to the 6.9l/7.3l pumps, so you couldn't interchange them if you wanted to.

Hope that helps some...

He also tried to tell us that the 3010-4020 John Deeres used a DB-2 pump, but I know for a fact that they only used a DB pump, and that knowledge comes from being around them all my life, and studying FACTORY JD LITERATURE on them.

To make him feel like he won, I told him the DB-2 was used on later JD's, and it was, but that wasn't until the 70's or 80's

What year did the DB-2 come out anyway?

Would an expert please tell us how the DB-2 differs from the DS (besides rotation direction)?

DS and DB series pumps can rotate in either direction, it's just the cam ring that needs to be flipped over when changing directions.
