hey guys what kind of rpms will a stock first gen turn?

Where is it sweet spot?

Max cruising rpm?

The 6BT from the factory will turn a max of 2800 RPM. There are kits out there that i know of that will let you run up to 3200 with teh VE pump. Your rev limiter is controlled by a governor spring in the VE pump.

My truck tended to like the 65-70mph range and it topped out at 85. Don't have a tach in my rig yet so I don't have a clue what I'm turning, but my Y2K wiht the NV4500 and 3.55 gears that I used to have would turn 2000 rpm at around 65 or maybe a little more. It's been a while so I don't recall exactly.

so could i run a stock first gen at say 2300 rpms all day long with no issues?

Cummins says in some of their specs sheets that you can run the engine against the govenor all day long without a problem - I will use a little more fuel but it won't hurt the engine - remember they used these engines as stand alone stationary as well as transit engines.

Anyone else have an opinion as i share the same one.

2300 shouldn't be a problem. Most trucks with 4.10s will be running around that speed anyway.
