Personally, I liked the idi, but I'm way happier with my 94 psd.
Test drive a few of both, and go from there.
Don't let people try to scare you away from the psd.

Super duty is intercooled.
Idles quieter.
But I like the OBS body better. And the louder injector clatter on the obs, I like.

Man, that's up to you.
Definitely be more work adding a turbo, and all that vs just buying a psd.
And I haven't had good luck putting a turbo on a n/a engine. (Engine longevity)
Then you gotta worry about head gaskets.

Yeah but while I had the heads off I'd do all new gaskets and a cam while I was in it lol maybe new rings and beerings lol but what I'm getting at is would this idi I build be powerful and durable like a PSD? Have good longevity and be good on fuel?

on a 7.3? Unless you are going to tow stupid heavy all the time with lots of boost I have not and would not worry about studs.

Eh, can get powerful.
Just gonna cost more.
Can't say on the durability.
But at the way higher power levels engine vs engine, the psd will be more durable.

Good luck. Lol
That's about the 300-400 horsepower range.
Not saying it can't be done with the idi, as it has been done. But it'll cost you.
