WOW I must be getting a little old, I swear I've read the the 6.9 was bored. 120 over to get 7.3, that was the reason for the cavitation.

so since IH made a new block for the 7.3 why did they make the cylinder walls so thin. cookoo

For the same reason they used 7/16 head bolts in the 6.9. Somebody was not thinking and it was cheaper doing that. As for the cranks being the same in the 6.9 or 7.3.. This is correct. Same mains and rod sizes. Even the same rods can be used in the engines. We can even use the turbo rods in as 6.9 if you built custom pistons for the larger wrist pins. Even the cam is the same throughout every idi engine be it the 6.9 all the way to the turbo 7.3. Makes is easy finding parts. The 7.3 did change the rings to a thicker better design but still works if you have the older style.
