I gotta ask, how did you move the handle for the tailgate down there? I love how it turned out, and since I'm all for mods (whether I need them or not) I'd be pretty interested in seeing more pics of your tailgate work :D

Took a plasma cutter cut around the handle, profile matches the bottom, marked it (upside down now) cut a new hole in the bottom, mig weld it up and grind smooth.

For the rods I now use 1/6th aircraft cable and conduit, works better than the old rods anyway.

Cut the notch out as you like, I used a sawsall, (notice the pictures the notch is now a little wider than before) cut to size, trim metal, mig weld and grind, then prime and bondo sand, prime bondo and sand, prime bondo and sand.

The center section is 1/6 treadplate aluminum, I will paint it dark metalic gray along with the running boards and rear bumper, plain red for the body.

I marked and taped the line off, and used a 4" side grinder with a cut off wheel .

A cut off wheel sounds like it would take a while, if your good with a torch or plasma you can have that thing cut in minutes;Sweet

yes but after you make the cuts with a torch or plasma you still have to come back and clean all the cuts up and make them straight. i made my cuts with a cut off wheel and afterwards your ready to go.
