How to: 3G install for 83-92 IDIs

Thank you for the wonderful write up, but it's a bit overwhelming. 3G's can be put into anything because they are basically a 1 wire setup. The only wire you need to integrate into the vehicle's harness is the 12v switch turn on (besides the obvious charging wires)

This may be of help as well - it sure was nice to ditch the voltage regulator crap from under the hood. I did this swap in a field in 10 minutes with simple hand tools - I'm not running any sort of fuse though, no issues so far.

I've got some seriously sketchy wiring under the hood, but I've got a brand new alternator installed, so I guess that will eventually go up for sale.

A GREAT source for these 3G alternators are Ford Tauruses - they are right on the top of the motor and can be pulled in ~ 5 minutes if you take your time. IIRC they are $15 from my pick n pull :)
