Therapeutic massage. I have a rib lower on my right side that would sublux (pop part way out of the socket, LOTS of pain) about 4-6 times a year and a therapeutic masseuse has been the only one that has actually been able to pop it back in. I go back every few months or so and it hasn't happened for about a year now.

in my mind i had cam on the brain,.
but i see the light now.

i plan on putting it together again today and getting her up to temperature.
Will you be putting Russ's cam back in? Or did you get as far as pulling the cam out?

OUCH!! Here's to hoping you can get your back duct taped back together soon. Back problems are really no fun...

little bit of update.
back still hurts, especially getting up from laying on the couch with a 21 pound bowling ball resting on your chest!
but i did manage to get the oil cooler back on.
tried messing with the valves again, and theres a full complete turn of the bolt that pushes the valve down while the cam is on base lobe.
ive made the command decision that i will be ordering custom pushrods before i attempt to fire this again.
pushrod length checker was ordered today.
should ship tomorrow and arrive on tuesday.

IF......
one has a hydraulic flat tappet cam, to adjust rockers, you tighten to zero lash (mostly where there is no play in the pushrod between the lifter and the rocker) then tighten 3/4 of a turn to preload the lifter.
would this be the same concept on a hydraulic roller lifter?

i think on the next set of heads that i do, im going to be looking into drilling and tapping the rocker arm boss for a 7/16" stud, and possibly running a gasser style rocker. maybe a shaft mount?

It is the exact same concept, but our
rocker bolts are course thread so more distance traveled per turn.

IIRC, you simply tighten the rocker down just until you start to get drag on the pushrod (twisting it between your fingers and thumb).

i found the issue before i pulled the cam, if the valve stems are the issue, i would have the same issue with the stock cam as well

correct. just wanted to make sure than these engines were the same.
i dont have much experience with a roller cam and adjustable rockers.
but i can feeler gauge a solid flat tappet cam like a **** lol

i wonder if anyone has ever tried solid roller lifters in these IDI's

Adjusting valves is a pain in the a$$. Other than that, I suppose there is no reason you couldn't. If adjusting valves is what you like to do in your spare time I say go for it! It would probably suck getting the valve covers off to do it though with all that turbo plumbing. :dunno
