Looking for some books on our trucks that are in great detail; doesnt matter if they are expensive.

Just seeing what everyone recommend besides the standard haynes and chilton manual that everyone buys or if anyone has the factory ford manual on our trucks id be willing to pay for a copy or something.

I know alot of the factory ford ones can be found online for a free download, but in my experience those have never worked out well for me trying to do it that route.

Thanks

I've found factory shop manuals on Fleabay. Are you looking for 1990 model year books, or what year?

FWIW I have factory, Haynes, and Chilton manuals for my '84...if I had to choose one, I'd stick with the factory, but I would pick Haynes over Chilton any day of the week. JMHO...

Yeah if I was to specifically choose one, thats what id need for my truck. Just wanting as many options for books on our trucks besides just the run of the mill haynes and chilton that everyone gets. BTW how are those prices on those manuals? I obviously see that the nicer shape they are in; the more they are going for but I have no idea what would be considered a good price to pay.

But just wanting to gain and have access to as much knowledge as humanly possible on these trucks. Im kind of a loser when it comes to forums and things for my vehicles. I will spend countless hours all day everyday just learning and reading about them.

If I even spent a 1/4 of the time on my graduate classes as I do forums, I could be deans list at Harvard; sadly im not kidding.

Those are the manuals I have and I'll tell you they are great. Well worth the asking price! I also then purchased the 94 TURBO specific one thats an add on for the Turbo engine trucks!

As well as the 3 factory manuals, I have the proverbial Haynes, and Chilton as well.

IMHO never can one have too much info covering details on these trucks or any vehicle as a matter of fact.

Just saying...

GET THE SET!

If you live in an area that had any kind of dealerships nearby, go checkout the reference section of your public library. After the dealers dont have to support models anymore, lots of them sell on ebay, but many of the more civilly aware ones donate their old service manuals to the nearby public libraries so folks can keep their older models alive. Even in a podunk town our library has a goldmine because we have the oldest ford dealer in the state. I can go in there and print off entire factory e4od transmission rebuild manuals, uname it. its a bit rough since they went from 3to 5 cents a page, but they have all kinds of stuff in there, The gm dealer goes back about 50-60 years, mopar not so long , but large areas have more.

There are a couple manuals I found for '93s and '94s on eBay. If you spot one for an '86, let me know!

I searched for "1986 ford idi diesel manual" and those results. They were in the $25 range, except one was going for $59 and was beat to hell!

I agree the 7.3l engine supplement manual I have is extremely worth it.
I scanned and posted a few sections of it on here, one was the complete head service, I do belive I posted all the specs and everything for a head job on here from the manual.

Chiltons is worthless IMHO.

The haynes manual is decent. Get the ford full size 80-96 book for the chassis and then you'll need the diesel engine book for the motor. The diesel engine book is pretty good, is pretty much a reprint of the ford manual. The chassis manual is pretty good too now that I think about it. Better wiring diagrams than the factory book.

But if you want the real manual nothing will beat the OEM Ford set. Keep your eyes open, you'll see them pretty cheap ever so often.

Alright guys I ended up buying this.

A little on the expensive side but I didn't want one that was all beat to hell and back from a shop and I couldnt find any that included just the 2 manuals in that nice of condition.
