My friends dad has a 82 MB 240D, today He tried to start the engine but it won't do it. The car will start just fine on summer so I know it could be a # of things like gelled fuel (the man is 78 y/o so He doesn't pay much attention when I say put ps when You fill up). The glow plugs I think they are ok but I wanted to add a block heater to aid on cold starts (feels like 0f right this morning) I looked on a couple web sites but they don't carry any that I know so does any of You know where to get them?

Thank You.

I have an extra brand new Mercedes block heater and cord (2 piece kit) for a W123. $30 including shipping. PM if interested. I can post a picture if you wish.

What is a w123? If it is the right one then let Me ask the guy but for that price I would get it anyway. Do You know where it goes exactly? I would guess like every other engine one has to pull a freeze plug right? Even on this weather (0f-30f) I use the block heater on My 1st gen every time I know I'll use it, the MB has glow plugs but it is so much easier on the engine when one just plugs it in.

The W123 is the classic sedan body style for the '77-'85 240D, 300D & 300 Turbo Diesel. Yes it goes in to a freeze plug rear of the coolant block drain plug. Removing the starter is advised. Using a strong cheater bar helps too. Besides good GPs and a block heater I can strongly suggest using a 5W40 oil until spring. It will aid in cold starts too. Rotella 5W40 synthetic is what I'm running right now.
