Split injector flare nut
I used a flare-nut crows-foot to replace some of the lines on mine without removing the IP. They are a very useful tool to have with these trucks, since they grip better than a standard crows-foot.- Joe Mc

Cruise Control
Every cruise control I've had, also had a switch on the clutch pedal. One day while forgetting the cruise control was on, I slide the transmission to neutral without using the clutch pedal, the cruise control responded by quickly red-lining the engine.- Joe Mc

Sudden Unexplained No-Start
I had an ignition switch go bad on my 86, it taught me that checking the 12 volts at the cut-off solenoid is only the first step, you need to check it while cranking to be sure. The bad switch had 12 volt in the on position, but would turn off the 12 volts while cranking. This drove me crazy for...- Joe Mc

10.25 Sterling axle nut tool - $12.99
My old seals didn't mark the driveway, they just coated some nice brake pads with grease. Now I am replacing shoes and seals, maybe the bearings. At $32 each I don't want to ruin these seals.- Joe Mc

On the Sterling it is a 4 prong with an inner spindle shaft. A standard socket won't do anything.- Joe Mc

Just came back from Checker/ O'Reilly auto parts, they have the spindle nut wrench on sale for $12.99, part number 648476. They usually want $26, napa wants $55. What a great time for my truck to lose an axle seal.- Joe Mc

Did they all die at once? They could just be burned out. Just to cover all the bases... You know that turning the light switch knob controls the brightness of the dash lights? They do it differently on newer cars.- Joe Mc

steering lock...how to defeat?
Try your own keys first, you might get lucky. Driving a fairly large screwdriver in to the lock to rip the pins out of the tumbler usually works good, just a little messy. Try to find someone nearby who picks locks for fun. If your lucky and you just need to move it across flat concrete...- Joe Mc
