I had heard that the turbos from ats/ford were crippled power-wise so as not to overshadow the 460 and future powerstroke. How easy is it to improve the turbo efficiency in these units?
Hey guys I really could use some advice. I hooked up a clear tube from the filter down to the return system. I cranked the motor over and my buddy watched the tube. BIG bubbles (voids of 1 or more inches) coming from the return system headed towards the filter housing. I was only able to start...
Is there anything wrong with doing that? I'm trying to find where my fuel lines are grabbing air. (Supply or return) I don't want air feeding back into the injection line. 1985 6.9
thats a very interesting thought. With how fast the line is pressurizing I'm half tempted to try that. The only argument I have against that is that I've actually had the engine running and its a consistent lack of fuel throughout all cylinders, ie if one injector was that f'ed up I'd expect a...
Ok tonight I went out and messed around with the truck. The schrader valve is constantly blowing air when open it. If I pump my manual pump on the aftermarket water separator and push open the schrader valve i can get diesel to come out after a few pumps. If I turn the engine over a few times I...
Great info. I really wasn't sure about the return line effects. Tomorrow I'm going to check the fuel pressure I think I have a tester that hooks into the shrader valve.
Justin - basically I ripped the return line off the elbow after trying to start it. I heard discharge of air. Thinking about it, it could be coming from either direction -- the fuel filter or the return line bc i don't think it has a check valve.
After I started it started seemed fuel starved...
Clarification
When i say constant air i mean out of the return line that comes from the fuel filter outlet elbow (i think this design changed in later models) I believe my elbow doesn't have a check valve but I'm not sure. So I believe its letting in a lot of that air. I had fuel coming out of...

I recently redid the head gaskets in my engine...
I'm getting major air pressurizing in my return fuel line near the fuel filter. Makes for a hard start if I don't start it on the first try. If I do start it on the first try, it runs with too much blue-white smoke leading me...
i was wrong about the stamp but right about the numbering. On mine theres a no. 2 stamped on the drivers side near the rad. its academic, bc i'm planning on buying all the lines anyway.
I thought it was too but then I convinced myself of the opposite. I think the number 1 is on the passenger side remember how it's stamped on the intake manifold. Mel probably would have caught me on this since he knows more about these engines than the engineers who built it.
Thanks for the info guys. I found a used set at a local mechanic, asking $60 for the whole thing so I may just spring for that. Its from a 7.3 but I don't think I should have problems, right? I seem to remember there was only a difference (maybe a spacer or something) on the #1 cylinder for the...
actually i believe its no. 7 (passenger side near firewall), still probably be tough to get at though. Anybody in the south jersey/philadelphia area who has a spare?
