I know that sootman doesn't care, but just in case you might, I would strongly recommend reading this before going any further.

http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bulbs/Hid/conversions/conversions.html
the gist of this is that you need to have the correct optics to go along with your HID ballast and bulb... which is either a specially designed focused housing and lens or projector setup. without those you are just gonna scatter tons of light in different directions and the visibility of objects in your path may get worse.

dont do it unless youre gonna do it the right way.

Very good article. That would explain why all of my friends that put HIDs in theirs vehicles suck. They spent between 100-500 and they all suck the same. They swear by them. I think they just feel stupid for spending all that money on something that does nothing other than blind oncoming drivers:dunno

Try a pair of silver stars and a harness w relays to get maximum voltage to the bulbs.

Unless you have projectors HIDs are usless and annoying/ignorant. Whenever a car is coming at my with scattered HIDs I put my highbeams and spot lights on. Like someone previously said Sylvanias are the best and relays are going to improve them that much more.

i think the bashing of hids need to stop. yea we all get you guys dont like driving towards people with hid bulbs. but hes asking how they work and i can say that they work a lot better than halogen bulbs. i dont need a solid beam. with the white light(not the dumb blue) i can see tons better especially off road. i've never had anyone flash their brights at me and its been over six months. the point is dont tell someone they dont work unless you've tried them. i did the relays and had the silverstars. they suck comparably in my opinion.

the kit is only $40 and is exactly what they say it is. a true plug and play(other than mounting the ballasts) harness and your done. same cost as silverstars yet will last easily twice as long.

If you can get HID kits for $40 can you get me a kit for my fog lights? And he asked what our opinion was...so we gave it.

Don't forget to check the light housings when trying to diagnose a poor lighting problem. The lenses get yellowed and hazed over the years, and I've not yet found a good polishing solution that lasts.

I replaced my headlamp housings with factory Ford housings, which have the correct optics for a halogen lamp, and installed Silverstar bulbs and an upgraded harness, which greatly improved my lighting.

The HID's are great- if in the proper housing. If you're looking to go HID, consider an auxiliary lamp from KC, Baja Designs, or one of the other major Desert Racing companies. Simply installing HID bulbs in your existing housing is NOT an acceptable way to get better lighting. The attitude that "I don't care about other drivers" is also unacceptable. The blinding light from an unfocused beam poses a major hazard to oncoming traffic, in the right conditions. Also, in inclement weather, the unfocused beam can reflect off raindrops, fog, snow, dust, etc., and make it hard to see for you, which renders your fancy HID's useless.

i understand that but this isn't the first time that everyone and their brother has jumped on the bandwagon of bashing the hids. i honestly dont know of anyone else on here that has tried them yet yet everyone on the chevy forums has them and likes them.....

yea the link i posted above has $40 kits. i helped install two of these kits. i had the hi/low kit and my buddy got just the single beam kit. neither one of us have had any problems with it but he said he would suggest the relay kit for the single beam as his truck has to be on when he turns them on or they will just flicker. but thats in a 96 chevy. the dual beam kit already came with the relay harness.
