What to look for

Want to buy my wife a TDI beetle to drive to work, as I think I'm gonna start brewing my own BioDiesel. Besides the Timing belt, what else should I look for on the TDI. Thanks in advance Murfman

Manual transmission if you want really good fuel mileage. The auto hurts the fuel mileage quite a bit.

Thanks, my wife dosent mind "Rowin the gears" so a stick it is. Did the early TDI Beetles have 4 spd trannys? If so when did the 5 spd come out. TIA MURFMAN
