Tire Sizing Question

No issues at all, really. The drop in rpm is under 100. What mpg you gain from the rpm drop you lose to the increased rolling resistance. You can't mount them on the original rims, of course. You have to have a minimum of about 7.5-inches. There are a couple of 255/85 tires (google) which might work on the stock 6-inch rim (check the specs) but are better on a 7-inch rim. I had 305/70s for a few years before the 285s. They rubbed a little on hard turns, even with less backspace on the rims.

Mounted mine on original steel wheels. No issues so far besides adding a spacer up front to help with turning clearances. 285/75r16

Oh, they mount up OK but you won't get the full life out of the tires that way, nor the optimal handling. It's something you might not notice until it's really important. There is a good reason for the rim width recommendations!
