I am looking at replacing my truck's (1994 F250) E40D with a later year model used low mileage E4OD and need to know which ones will fit ( gas/diesel F150 or F250 etc ) . Also what other items have to be addressed . - Thanks

I haven't heard of anybody putting a 5 speed in a 4 speed truck so i'd say 4r100 or e4od, with the power stroke ones you need to use the idi torque convertor and selinoid pack.

Due to bolt pattern differences and an integrated bellhousing, you'll need to get a tranny out of a diesel. Beyond that, I'm not sure...don't know if a dark side E4OD will fit an IDI or not.

You could always go the hand-shaker route, though :D

the electronics are different in the darkside E4DOA. Unfortunately, that is the main problem with the early trans. I have seen after multiple rebuilds the valve body area on the case start to warp after multiple rebuilds, so eventually you will be forced to go with the later trans just for the physical parts itself. Then again, that black box Baja(that baminator gadget of soemthing like that) has been crowing about may solve some of the interface issues.

The "Black Box" that towcat is referring to is a Baumann TCS User Programmavle transmission computer. It replaces the OEM computer and works miracles with the very finicky E4OD. The OEM computer is a piece of crap, espcecially when compared to the Baumann TCS. Call Greg (Baumann's Tech support) at 864-335-9365 10am-5pm EST or go to www.becontrols.com and ask Greg if the newer E4OD will work or ask about whatever problem you are trying to solve. Tell him Alden sent you. OkieGringo
