I need to replace the speedometer cluster in my 1992 crew cab. I found a used one at a salvage yard but the book says that only 1992-1993 are interchangeable. What makes a 1994 speedo cluster different from the 92-93? Thanks for any help.

Just bumping this back up If anybody knows why a 94 speedometer wont cross to a 92 let me know. It may be that the 94 is run through a computer on the truck and 92 has no computer but I am just guessing.

Looks like the speed sensor is the same for 92-96, but the dash surround is different for the 94-96 so maybe the size, shape or mounting for the gauges is different?

I'm not 100% sure on this but I would bet that - the gauge cluster for any 92-94 truck with an IDI diesel is the same. "The book" probably says that only 92 and 93 are interchangeable because they introduced the powerstroke in 94, and the gauge cluster that came with the psmoke was not the same as the IDI cluster. If the one at the yard is from an IDI, I would buy it and see if it works - most of the yards around here mark parts so if its not right, you can bring it back within 7-10 days, depending on the yard.

I got used one that works, if you are interested. It has a two inch crack in the plastic cover but its presentable!
