having trouble starting my 6.9 diesel

just put in a new motor in my truck,and went in to start it up and it wont start,it turn over fine.so i put a gas rag on it and tried starting it and it finally started but then i turned it off and it took a long time for it to start,i know it has something to do with the injector pump,we have lined every thing up on it ,and it still takes a long time for it to start.what should i do to make it start right up

I would think that it is GP,Fuel delivery,or poor compression. What is the ambient tempature when you are trying to start. And when was the last time it got up to operateing tempature.

how do you test compression? i'm having trouble starting my 7.3 and thought it was glow plugs
