The engine is a 1979, in an S1700 wrecker. I think it's 215HP, runs ~1900RPM at 65, governed around 2600. It has tremendous miles on it (north of 600K since an IFO), and might have a leaking injector. Does anyone still sell injectors and an IP for this relic?

Also, is 2600RPM too much for a 466?

Is it at all unreasonable for a DT466 to run 1,000,000 un-overhauled miles? :)

Sure, there's still stuff available for it. You can also upgrade to an inline pump with a set of injectors & lines(if I remember right). Try ebay, an IH dealer, or yellow pages for injection shops.
A 466 can hold 2600 all day long at 100% load, no worries there. My work truck can hit 3050 rpm, and it's about 2600rpm at 55mph.
Yes, I'd say it's possible to run a mill. miles. Lots of them see over 500k.

Of course, the injectors are the same body codes all the way back to the beginning, in 1976!!! Best thing is that they're only ~$40!! :hail
The DT466 wasn't raised to 215HP until 1986. Back in '79, the max rating was 210HP. Other "49 state" available ratings were 160 & 180. California ratings were only 180HP or 210HP. The nozzle code number is located just below the outer end where the fuel line threads on.

No, not at all. Mine runs ~2650.

Not common, but not unreasonable. It would be pretty tired, but it's possible, sure!

This one still runs pretty strong, but there's enough fuel dilution in the oil that Chuck is:

1) Changing the oil at 3500 miles instead of 6000, and...
2) Considering new injectors.

It doesn't smoke much (a blue puff at startup, a black puff the first time you hit the throttle after a cold start), and starts right up in sub-freezing temps, so the ring seal is pretty good. It uses about 1.5 quarts of oil in 3500 miles.

I'd bet a set of 'jectors would help a lot. They're so cheap.

Unfortunately, it'll have to wait at least another week...because the injector pump in the F-550's 7.3 PSD picked last night (11:28pm, according to Chuck's cell phone record) to crap out. With that OOS, we won't have a spare truck if the IH is also apart.

Injector pump? You mean HPOP or the fuel pump?

Don't know...I got an e-mail from Chuck, and he said the injector pump had gone out. I'm not familiar with the acronym "HPOP".

The Ford Powerstroke doesn't have an injector pump. The injector pump is found on common rail (non-HEUI) diesels. The 7.3L is a HEUI diesel with the HPOP (high pressure oil pump), not an injector pump, used to open & close the injectors. The 7.3L does have a low pressure fuel pump to pull fuel from the tank to the engine valley.

An 82 likely has the rotary pump. They can be turned up, but it's tricky & can screw up the pump itself if not done correctly. What you can do is replace the pump with an inline pump from an 84 or newer, along with the lines and injectors. The next easiest thing to do is send out the injectors to get Extrude honed, if you didnt want to swap the pump.
