Check list for buying an IDI

Ok, im buying an 91 F350 soon and have been on this forum reading like crazy and watching repair/maintanace videos non-stop in preperation. To the best of my very limited knowledge, I put together a checklist of things to look for and go over when i go to look at the truck. I havent seen anything like this, so I made one, figure if anybody new to the world of IDI's needs a little help in finding a good one... here ya go. Now for all you guys on here that know these trucks backward forward and sideways... please give me some input on additions, subtractions, and of coarse where im wrong. I will change add or otherwise when I get a sec. Hope this helps and good luck.

Nice list and welcome to the forum. Seeing your looking at a cali truck you probably wont have to check for rust in the fenders but feel for it anyway. You might be looking at a farm truck thats been in cow *** all its life spreading feed in the cow pens..

yea, i had considered throwing that in there... i think i will. other than the fender wells, any other trouble rust spots to keep an eye out for?

Under oil leaks, I would check front and rear main seals. Although they are not a deal breaker, they do take effort and $ to correct.

That's a damn good list I wish I would have had it before I bought my 86,along with discovery of this site lol..oh only if I had known then what I kinda sorta know now

If it starts and the wts light stays on 8-10 seconds the gp's are ok. I see no reason to go measuring resistance on them. Plus a seller may not let you.

Nice truck man.

Out there makes me sick at how nice the trucks are and only considered average or barely worth anything. When out here they would bring big money; crazy how much things change from state to state.

You might want to take a magnet with you. A good body shop can do a very good job hiding damage with Bondo. It's quite an easy test.

Somebody above mentioned rust on the door sills and rocker panels. Pay particular attention to the lower corners ahead of the doors and at the rear of the cab.

That is a SHARP looking rig you're looking at. Very jealous, and that's from somebody with a near-perfect body on his '85.

shuld be heading out tomorrow, got my checklist and all the great other things to look for... thank you to everybody. i have some ideas for checking the tcase to make sure that hte oiler hasnt spun, but need the truck first. gandalf, thanks for the magnet tip, will add theat tothe list!

has anybody ever tried a snake cam through the fill to spill hole on the bw1356 case to check for oiler spin?

i usually just put it in 4hi and listen for the can of marbles. no can of marbles noise....we're good! of course the last one that came apart looked like the PO field fixed it with an aluminum pop can just to get the truck sold.
