I started up ol' LuLuBelle yesterday when it was a balmy 98 degrees. I thought I would check the blowby, so i unscrewed the oilfiller cap. I then placed a rubber glove over the opening, and LO AND BEHOLD: the vacuum almost sucked the glove into the crankcase/oilfiller tube. My question is this: IS THIS NORMAL?
Did my toenail transplant go haywire, are my future grandchildren going to be born naked?? Inquiring minds want to know.!!! Will the brain trust please chime in???Gracias, su amigo: MEXICANJOE!!!

At idle, it is not uncommon to build negative (vacuum) crankcase pressure. Shows everything is sealed up good.

6.7 Powerstrokes on our engine dyno will do the same. the dyno monitors crankcase pressure. The engine will generate a slight vacuum at idle, and that changes to a small amount of positive pressure as the rpms and the engine load builds up. Peak crankcase pressure occurs at WOT / Peak Torque, which makes sense as that is when cylinder pressure is the highest and the most amount of blow-by occurs.

Air filter?

^^This. Check the air filter. If it's restricted, it causes the intake to pull more vacuum than usual (for a diesel). If it's not restricted, then you have an unusually tight engine. Some small amount of blowby at idle is normal on these.

OK, its off to Oreilly to get a fresh airfilter. I can say that adding canola oil to the fuel seems to help the tired old thing. I added a home made air airtube to help ingest some 103 degree west Texas air........Ive still got a ratting noise when the engine is running, and the clutch is not depressed. I believe now that the throwing bearing and throwout arm are not engaged properly.
My many thanks to my friends here. I understand ALL my future grand children will be born naked, my toenail transplant did not go as planned.. I did not reject the toenail, the toenail rejected me!!!! Further, I found out the sun will continue to rise in the East until further notice ;and I will not ever purchase a powerstroke V-8.!!!
