i have an 89 which way do i turn the pump to retard the timing , truck smokes a lot ( grey ) when starting up especially cold could use some help

Passenger side advances, driver side retards. You should really use timing equipment to get it dead on though

I live in north San Deigo county, been looking for the equipment to time the truck not had much luck, Any body in southern Cal that might be able to help would even pay a shop if there is one close enough
