I got pissed off and realized i could simply wire up a cheap ford mustang starter relay in place of the $100 plus one that plugs in. the ford starter relay is 12 bucks at kragen's.
just supply the 12 hot from the original harness to one of the large posts, the power out to the plunger solenoid...

I cut up both the 89 intake tube and the 96 and used a flange from an exhaust shop to connect the two. then used the air-filter you recommended and the filter change indicator form the 96 air-box to franken it:)

She is finally back and running strong, I will be hauling a 5th wheel horse trailer to so-cal later this month with it and i cant wait to see the difference with the new bullet in the chamber :)

Does anyone have a diagram that shows the engine compartment vacuum lines on a 89 dodge cummins with ac?
I am adding ac to my 89 d350 with a 96 cummins engine. I have the heater ac box out of a 93 but it did not come with the engine compartment lines for vacuum.
Added note, i just installed a mech gauge at the oil filter housing and i am seeing 80 at idle and 90-95 at 2k rpm
i am guessing that i have a bad sender correct?
does it matter that i am taking a reading at the filter rather than the other side of the block where the sender is?
Hello again, I have been running the new 96 engine in my 89 and am a little concerned by the oil pressure gauge. It is running 2 notches above low. I wonder if the sending unit is different on the 96 engine than it was on the 89 engine.
I have added a used banks intercooler from a 91 d350. It barely fit behind the stock grill. My truck did not come with ac and I am now going to try to add a stock system from a 91 as well. There is no room left behind the grill. Do the new grills have more room between the radiator and the grill...
that is cool.. that is the same air filter i had on the 89 engine. so i would use the flex hose that goes to the 96 box and then just plum it to the same spot. simple, jsut the way i like it :)
I have a first gen that I put a 96 cummins engine in. i had to swap out bell housing, drain pan and oil pick up to get it to fit in. I am now having custom intercooler pipes made and just realized i have a new issue. The turbo air intake is a lot larger on the 96 engine than the old 89 engine...

I pulled the stat and i am still overheating and loosing fluid. i think i might have a cracked head. between the exhaust valve and the water jacket. i think i am loosing fluid when the engine gets hot and it is evaporating and going out the tail pipe. it seams to be the only logical explanation...
