i dunno if these guys are any good, but they advertise some interesting stuff for the idi. i think someone else posted this link a while back www.barnetthighperformance.com they claim they have a stroker kit, ported heads, and some other goodies coming soon. i've been gonna call em and see...
what year is your truck, does it have the internally regulated alternator? if not feel the regulator. if the problem persists, try disconecting the plug on the alt. with the two wires coming out when you park it for the night and see if it still drains the batteries.
i came accross one when i was looking for a tach. it said it was good for any idi, but i dunno if it would work for these engines. i googled diesel tach and it came up cause it has a built in digital tach. i can't remember the name of the company though.
ok, since we're on the subject, i been thinkin' bout turning the pump up a little more on my '76. i turned the screw a quarter turn when i installed the turbo like banks recomends, but i'd like to try to get a little more out of it. just wanted to get a second opinion before i do. egts run...
yeah, its better because your t-case out of the '79 should bolt right up to the zf tranny or the E4OD. the 700r4 (if you could find an adapter to bolt it to the block) would require an adapter to bolt to a ford t-case. i agree with angem and cat rebel, if you decide on an auto, go with the...
yep, wether you go with the cummins or the idi you gotta cut the cross member, but as long as you weld it back up good not a problem. maybey tomorrow i'll take a couple of pics of mine. the fordcummins website also has pics of a mod'ed cross member.
by the way, does the 79 have the marriage...
not hard at all. i've changed 2 of these old fords to standards this one and a 73 f-100. in your case the only parts you would need is the clutch pedal, shaft, and the arm that goes on the end of the shaft. i got one if ya need it (i think). everything else is on the donor truck. oh ya, one...
www.fordcummins.com has complete kits to install a cummins in a 1970 to 1979 ford truck.
gotta ask though, what happened to the '88 f-250 donor truck? that sounded like the cheapest and easiest route. it cost about $500 for the stuff to install mine. the other new stuff i added was purely...
open up the exhaust, get rid of ford's smashed sorry excuse for a down pipe.
also ram air and or a free flowing filter would proboably help. what shape is the tranny in? if it's worn, excess slippage will bring your milage down too. what's your gear ratio? i've got 2 idi's one with 4.10's and...
yeah, i bought my turbo and water\meth kit from them and a bunch of other misc. stuff (gp's, return line kit, ect.). i would highly recomend them. first rate service and good prices too.
man am i glad i read this thread, i've got a cummins that needs rebuilt and i was planning to order a kit from those guys this winter(they got one priced pretty cheap). thanx for the good info.
yeah, i'm gonna take a couple today & try to get em' posted. hopefully i can figure it out, check my gallery later today.
about the speed sensor, i'm not real familiar with the auto trannys but i know both manuals and autos have a sensor attatched to the speedo cable. i know it's for the...
yep, what tonkadoctor said is right on the money, PITA. but there is a way to put a yoke on the back of your zf and make it a 2wd tranny. the 1990-97 f-superduty trucks have the 4x4 version of the zf tranny, but instead of a t-case bolted up to the back of the tranny they have a tranny mounted...
