    Tachometer jumpy when using hvac

Years of running clearance lights on a travel trailer fried at least 1 - maybe two headlight switches before I switched out to LED on most lights (not on brake/turn bulbs though). It gets hot. The stock alternator on my '93 with the serpentine belt has performed adequately though the original...

    Exhaust Manifold Removal

A couple of years ago I took my pristine '93 7.3 IDI to Midas for a state inspection as I have done for years. This time they claimed the exhaust manifold gasket was leaking and had to be replaced. I looked for any sign of a leak and found nothing. Took it to another shop and got a sticker...

2000 mile trip in 1990 F250 with 2,400 lbs in bed?

I'd check rear tire temperatures at fuel stops - either with your hand or an IR contactless thermometer. That will give you a good idea of overall conditions. If you'll be driving at night aim the headlights lower counting the turns so you can return the headlights to their previous adjustment...

    School me on obs dash

I bought an oil pressure sensor for a Ford gas V8 engine prior to 1988. Threads match and there's plenty of room. . There's no numbers on the dashboard oil pressure "gauge" but the needle will reflect actual pressure rather than the on/off factory sensor. Something like...

Samco Sport Silicone Radiator Hose Reviews

I'm fairly certain that I'm on the 2nd set of radiator hoses my truck has had in 33 years. The factory originals lasted about 16 years and didn't leak and looked good but due to their age were replaced around 2009.

    Hit a pothole and fire

Isn't there an always hot wire to a brake pressure switch (cruise control) in that area? Ford sent me dozens of recall notices years ago. That arrangement caused a number of fires back in the day. https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2007/RCRIT-07V336-5008.pdf My cruise control quit prior to that so...

    Rear Freeze Plugs

Heard a call in radio program claiming that many of today's replacement freeze plugs are not adequately oversized. Something to consider...

    E4od delayed upshifting

I recall reading about two replacement TPS parts to choose from - black or grey plastic with black TPS being a better quality. Anyone else?

    Bolt on exhaust system recommendations

Finally got through to Complete Performance. The company that makes the 7.3 Hypermax bolt on kit stopped production temporarily. It's supposed to be temporary and may start up again. Pre-orders taken now.

Another fuel tank eaten by salt.

Mine came with factory skid plates on the side tank and the rear tank. The side tank is plastic - some came through like that. The rear tank is steel and it developed rust spots serious enough to leak so the skid plate served no protection against corrosion. Treated roads create a mist under a...

    Bolt on exhaust system recommendations

Walker/Rockauto has 2 1/2" exhaust. No custom shops nearby.

    Bolt on exhaust system recommendations

I currently have a Walker stock exhaust - very small diameter. No turbo nor any plans for one. I like the Hypermax 3.5" as it appears to follow the stock installation - over the axle and exiting on the drinker's side of the truck $795. Hypermax isn't answering their phone or returning messages...

So what did you do with your truck today?

I'm considering a 3 1/2" Hypermax which I believe is similar to the Flowmaster. Do you notice any improvement, and is the cab noise worse?

    gas station diesel

I've used Stanadyne Performance Formula most of the years I've owned my '93 7.3. Got over 150,000 miles on the factory pump and injectors. It also disperses water so I never have to drain water from the filter.

    Receiver hitch options

I had a Reese class V installed in '94 when I bought a travel trailer. Eight years later while underneath I found a crack in the Reese where it bolts to the frame. I contacted Reese and they shipped me a complete replacement free and never asked for the damaged Reese to be returned. Now, 20 plus...

    Injection pump rebuild

I'm not trying to be argumentative - however tariffs used to be America's primary source of tax revenue. From 1790 until 1913 between 50% - 90% of federal government revenue came from tariffs collected from imported goods. That all changed in 1913 when income became subject to taxation. Other...

    Injection pump rebuild

For as long as I can remember books have two prices printed on every book - a US price and a Canadian price. The Canadian price is always substantially higher. Canada also has had tariffs on lumber, diary products and other items imported from the US for years which has negatively impacted...

    Injection pump rebuild

Back in the 1990's a motorcyclist from Nova Scotia had parts sent to me - which he came and picked up and installed before returning to Nova Scotia because fees Canada charged to have the part shipped to Nova Scotia was expensive enough for him to travel to Maine to avoid. This problem existed...

    Fleetguard coolant test

Haven't done this test for a while... I watched a Fleetguard video on YouTube and if I understand correctly the Moly & Nitrate readings intersect in the green zone called "service" DCA additive is still required. Years ago I overdosed the coolant and maybe coincidentally the water pump started...

    Seriously Dumb Rear Spring Question

It seems like a good time to say that during my time here I've had various questions about issues or maintenance on my pickup. Everyone here has always been helpful and generous with their knowledge. That's often not the case with online forums but this one (the people that make it up) are stand...

    Transfer case options

Regular RTV never worked that well sealing the transfer case for me. Anaerobic sealant worked much better. I just tossed the Ford package I had stapled to the garage wall - it was expensive and looked like strawberry jam.
