A couple oddities I need opinions on. I found this bolt in the old filter. It matches the filter bolts. I have filled all eleven filter attachment holes. Now is it possible the PO dropped a bolt in the filter and purchased a replacement? Or do I need to figure out where this extra bolt goes??
Thanks for posting @Cubey don’t see anything different from mine. Will just go ahead and install my filter as is. Had to go with WIX but it looks comparable besides the paper gasket for the filter over the metal one from the original… I’m just going to steel the metal filter gasket from the 2WD...
By process of elimination I’ve found the nut to be 1 3/16 for anyone that needs that info in the future!
Now filter comes in tomorrow. This “notch” or “dent” that people keep talking about. I’d like to get clarification. Posting a picture of the old filter with the “straw thingy” already...
Trying to figure out the bolt size for the transfer case. My adjustable wrench looks like it’s about 1 1/4? Need some more ugga ugga power to get this open. Gonna need to buy a new socket. Don’t have one that fits currently
Glad I came here. Definitely bought the 2x4 filter. Hopefully I would have noticed the different design either way but who knows. So I stole the old “straw” from my original part and ordered a new 4x4 filter. Does this cylinder just drop into the new filter and in good to go?
Harbor freight (I know, on a budget though) has a 1 ton for under $1000. 100 inches tall. Wonder if that’s tall enough after adding the crane…
Might be able to talk a buddy into splitting it with me if I’m lucky.
That’s a **** beast Merc and a beautiful engine. Do you mind me asking which the details on that hoist? I might just bite the bullet and get one if they’re manageable cost wise. I need to get this thing running.
Ah gotcha. Didn’t realize there was a difference in 4x4 and 2x4 filter. I have a 4x4 and I typed that in at the parts store so we’ll so how that goes…
Is there a way to rotate the torque converter/flex plate without crawling up to the cab out to crank the engine? This is killing me lol
Having trouble finding the drain plug in the torque converter. Any advice? I’ve read allen key bolt and/or 7/16 hex bolt? Knowing what I’m fishing for/with would help.
Also what’s this notch in the filter I keep reading about?
Thanks in advance!
Sorry those are the best pictures I could get. Upon second glance that actually might be around the block heater. Passenger side there’s a stainless steel plug to the right of it and a wire for what I thought was a sensor to the left but might just be the block heater. I’ve never seen one, I...
Merc, when you say the pins might not be necessary so you mean braiding alone might be acceptable? How does one determine what will be required?
I know I need to get the engine out and inspected. I didn’t expect to need to do this so early though. I still need to devise how I’ll be hoisting a...
Thanks @FrozenMerc that’s really good news.
I already planned to pull the engine to replace leaky seals eventually when I have the time and space… and yes maybe a few small upgrades I’ve found from sleuthing the IDI forums.
Do you think I should drill the edges of crack for the temporary JB...
Hey guys…. Super bummed. Was doing a coolant flush on my new to me 6.9 IDI (1986 F-250) and I guess removing all the sludge and rust in there opened up an old crack. I noticed a drip and crawled under it on the passenger side behind the starter and there’s an old rusty spot which I noticed when...
Yes, the part that comes up for it as compatible had two different inner diameters
Thanks for all the reply’s everyone! It looks like I’ll be good to go with the bulk 5/8” hose.
@Goat thanks for the **** off valve switches. That’s a good idea. I’ll be adding those as well.
Reviving an old dead thread here. I’m trying to replace my heater hoses and I’m finding parts that have 5/8” orifice on one side and (I believe) 3/4 on the other. I can’t really start this and not have all the right parts. Am I good with a bunch of 5/8” hose cut to size or am I going to need...
That sequence makes sense. I’m going to give that a try this morning. If that doesn’t work I’m just going to fill the filtered the old fashion way. Would be nice to know how to work this thing but not the ends of the world I guess
You’re right. I must have typed in the wrong number sequence when I looked it up. Well that makes me feel better! Do you know what the relief valve on the bottom is used for? Is that to release water since diesel is lighter than water? Pretty nifty now that I think about it. How often should...
Never said I didn’t like it lol! Just trying to figure out how it works. Sat there and pumped the top button to no avail and hit the back black button a few times hoping it would purge air or something
