7.3 idi air intrusion — the saga continues

I made a post back in January inquiring about issues with my truck not running for more than a mile without killing out. Since then, I was under the assumption that I had all the kinks worked out of it. for about 1 1/2 months now the truck has ran flawlessly, no dying, no loss of power, the only...

i would say that but i took the clear bowl off and cleaned it all out and put diesel on the oring before reinstalling and made it super tight and still zilch. it started working after letting it sit for a few minutes so i’m guessing it was overheating. Going to check my relay and breaker fuse...

Update 2: after blowing out the lines from the fsv to the electric pump with the hose on the inlet of the pump taken off, i hooked up my electric pump and it started pumping the best i’ve seen it. my clear tubing instantly filled with fuel and no matter front or rear tank, it had zero air coming...

this is quite funny. the rear tank before was working fine, and the front was sucking in straight air. now it seems the roles have flipped and the front tank sucks up fuel, albeit with a ton of air, and the rear seems completely dry. this is baffling.

Update: i took off the FSV, cleaned it down with brake cleaner, and blew compressed air into the 6 inlets, plugged it back in, switched the tanks, and blew it all out again. Couldn’t see much debris come out of it though. Then took the compressed air and blew into the return and sending hoses...

Great idea! I’ll disconnect the hose on the FSV and just use an air hose and see what it will blow out on both sides and back through the lines into the tank. Also, if you are aware, are the o-rings just a generic size like 1/4 or something else? And the fuel lines felt quite hard (30 years old...

However even if it’s an issue isolated to the fuel tank, i can’t process how i was able to drive it real hard for probably 10 minutes about 2-3 miles one day and then it craps out and starts dying every 15 seconds to the next day only being able to go half a mile and it start the same problem...

The truck was parked because when my dad had it as his daily driver, every time he’d leave a jobsite he would have to sit there and crank it for 3-5 minutes with the mechanical pump just to get it to start up again. I think he said it ran fine after it was running but it seems to me like air...

I have ordered new shower heads for each tank. May need to buy the whole unit too but will update once i manage to drain the tanks out and drop them. Considering replacing the fuel switcher valve (finally realized that was what FSV was after some reading :P) while i’m at it. I can hear it go...

the problem happens on both tanks, just happens way sooner on the front tank. I have clear line from my lift pump to my filter and at idle the rear tank doesn’t get any air leaks, completely solid. as soon as i switch to the front tank the tubing fills with air bubbles and runs for maybe 15...

Thanks, is the fuel shutoff valve in the tanks, part of the tank selector switch, or a separate piece back in the line? i ask because the only similar thing i’ve been able to find is the fuel shutoff solenoid on the IP, however that’s ahead of where the problem is coming from like you already...

So i’ve heard, naturally after I installed it haha. Any other brand or model you’d recommended instead? That’s the conclusion i came to as well. Didn’t think it would because both tanks are over 3/4 full, but with how finicky the rest of the engine is regarding air intrusion, i’m sure of it.

Air intrusion before the lift pump then? The injector lines have all been purged twice and are getting a steady flow of fuel. Considering I see air being pulled into the lift pump directly from the fuel tank lines, probably is a bad fuel tank unit/shower head/filter gizmo. Will try to pull the...

Hi all, I recently began working on my dad’s old 7.3 IDI in mid November since my LB7 Duramax has faulty injectors (again). It’s been sitting since 2008 so I’ve done a decent amount of maintenance on it so far. I’ve replaced batteries, return lines, injector orings, oil, transmission fluid...
