Well, I have a new VSS installed. Pulled the diff cover and cleaned inside with 3 cans of brake kleen. You could eat off the ring & pinion. I made sure to clean all the nooks & cranny's that I could find too. Filled up w/ 3 quarts of 80/90 and one 7 oz bottle of limited slip additive. Went...
I'm coming into this a little late... I'm an adjuster for a body shop in Georgia. I can tell you all about this process. So, my guess is that you were found at fault in this accident? Who's your insurance company?
Just drove it w/ codes cleard and it did fine. What gives? I'm afraid the problem will come back. I don't wanna sell the truck if somebody's gonna have trouble with it 2 days from now. Maybe I should pull the axle cover & clean inside the diff. really good and put it back together?
Alright... I cleaned the sensor, cleared the code, and all seemed great. Drove to the store to buy a new sensor & trans shifted fine. Came home & installed sensor. Drove to wash the truck and on the way back it started acting up again as I rounded a corner. OD light flashed for about 1...
Pulled it out. The is a bunch of metal filings around the outside of the sensor and a few on the sensor "eye". I think since its $20.00 at advance I'll go get one. I report back in a little bit.
Well I drove the truck to Oreilly's to get the scanner. O/d light flashed the whole way. Cranked the truck up to leave the store and no flashing...:dunno. So I came home, plugged in the scanner and got a code of 29, which means:
Insufficient input from Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS)
or...
I've read all kinds of posts on this subject. Now that I'm selling my truck, its mad at me and wants to throw a fit. Here's what's happening:
Drive down the road and trans shifts just fine - goes thru all gears including lock-up & o/d. Once I reach 45-50 mph, EITHER one of two things...
I'm considering a '96 c/c shortbed 2wd auto. I've done a walk-around, looked underneath, and everything seems ok. Owner says it has 350k. Is there anything I should pay close attention to? He's asking $3000.00. Thanks guys.
Filling up the fuel tanks is not a bad idea. Get a good fuel conditioner and pour a healty dose into each tank after fill-up. When you get home at X-mas, plug the block heater in for a few hours before you crank it up.
Click on the second picture... you'll see a green strap. I guess that's some sort of limiting strap. In front of the strap you'll see a white pad bolted to the frame and a bracket that extends up from the axle that acutally rubs on the white block. That controls side-to-side.
I can't remember the brand, but I'll ask dad. That truck is an ex-ambulance. The ambulance conversion company installed the air ride. You can see where the took the leaf spring hangers off and bolted on the brackets for the control arms. Its a REALLY nice set-up where each bag has a control...
