The diesel supplement manual specifies standard torque for 3/8 and 5/16 coarse threads, IIRC 24 lbs for the front header and 14 lbs for the rear header. I used thread sealant on mine. Didn't figure it would hurt to use the white permatex sealant.
The oil cooler is on. I'd like to crank engine without it firing to prime the oil system. Can someone tell me what to disconect to do this. Can't find procedure in the shop manual. It just says to do it....
Thanks,
Sam
Success. The test jig is completed, today I assembled the cooler and pressure tested both oil and water side. No leaks. I've taken a number of photos of the construction of the jig and will post them in a new thread as soon as I get a photobucket account. One last question, do I use permatex...
That was my plan at first, but since the hose supplied in the kit is 1/2 inch, thought why not use it there instead of blocking off that 1/2 inch barb? It would be easier and maybe the torque converter would warm up sooner as Ford intended?
I bought this system. On the 7.3 92 F250 with AOD and the heater return hose with the 1/2 inch reduction branching to the lower right radiator barb fitting, any reason not to hook up the 1/2 inch tee supplied in this kit directly in place of the original equipment 1/2 inch hose section in that...
Well, I may have found a problem with my oil cooler. My cooler bundle appears to be have been either manufactured poorly or damaged by a previous repair job. On one end the inner land that stops the large green o-ring is wavy. It seems to be bent towards the end between two of the four spot...
I had to pull steering shaft out and over, then the cooler came out! Now I will get busy and make that test jig. Maybe I can get lucky and find someone who has one in town, I'll test the cooler before taking it apart. Shouldn't be rocket science to pressure test both ends. Thanks again, Sam
Al, I think I'm finding out that the steering is in the way, the cooler won't come out to the rear. I'm also not seeing where the steering column bolts on to the steering box. Is it a pinch bolt arrangement or are there several bolts that I need to find? There is a plastic cover over the lower...
Thank you Tom. This page in manual says it is important to test the cooler before disassembly. I've read lots of posts of folks describing how they take the cooler out in pieces, so they couldn't possibly be testing the cooler before disassembly. Apparently if the cooler tests bad before...
Hey guys, I'm having some fun. So far things checking out pretty well on the truck. The previous owner didn't have much info for me, only owned truck for six months, but apparently the person before took care of the cooling system. It is really clean inside, pulled the thermostat today, clean...
Thanks, ironworker40, I just purchased the manual set you suggested from ebay. Now, on the oil cooler O-rings/gasket is there any quality difference between the Victor or the OEM O-rings, for example? There is going to be a good deal of my time invested in the cooler repair and I don't want to...
Thanks so much for the info on the difference between the 6.9 and 7.3 system, I was under the truck and couldn't find that other filter. I'm running power service through the truck now. I will need to pull my oil cooler and put in new seals so I've read up on the flush procedure and how to get...
Hi all, just joined this forum. I could use a little help finding a service supplement for my truck. Just bought it, and I would like to start by draining water from the fuel separators and changing all the fuel filters. I understand there is a filter between the tanks and the fuel pump from...
