    Temperature Sender / Sensor

No one ever posted the part number for the overheat sensor? I need one for my '88 F250 7.3 IDI. No one knows its part number?

1988 7.3 IDI Temperature Gauge Problem

Sure enough worked, so is a redundant system and sending unit has failed. Thanks, Austin86250. Will probably replace that sensor anyway, just because. Would anyone have the correct part number for this lower simple off/on switch that closes on overheat condition only?

1988 7.3 IDI Temperature Gauge Problem

The temperature gauge is not the problem.

1988 7.3 IDI Temperature Gauge Problem

All of a sudden the red 'ENGINE' check light has come on and the temperature gauge is pegged at extreme 'H' (hot) end of the scale. My F250 is running normally (not overheating) so I'm pretty sure either a sensor has failed or some other problem has occurred causing these indicators to...

Possible air intrusion when parked uphill?

Thank you, Cubey and TNBrett. I believe I do understand the process now. You've made sense of it for me. Much appreciated!

Possible air intrusion when parked uphill?

Three questions if you please: 1. So if I understand correctly, the lift pump normally supplies more fuel than the injection pump requires and that excess fuel simply flows back to the tank through a return line. One would think an alternative to this constant circulation of the...

Looking for a Western Washington 7.3 IDI mechanic for regular maintenance

You might try Paul at Custom Auto Inc in Elma Washington. He and his son Ben did quite a lot of work on my 1988 4x4 F250 IDI that I didn't have time to do. They did a fine job in a timely manner and seemed to even enjoy having it to work on. https://www.facebook.com/customauto88/

    6.9 IDI Burning Oil Excessively

My 7.3 with unknown history burns a quart per tank (fill-up). As well as it runs, I never thought to make that an issue. I have not looked to see whether the intake manifold is wet.

    Safe running rpm

I sort of hijacked your thread, sorry. I guess I really meant to ask what the (governed) factory RPM limit on these engines is, from anybody on the forum.

    Safe running rpm

What is the governed speed on the 6.9 in the 7.3 non-turbo, anyway?

Help Narrowing Down 1988 F-250 7.3 IDI N/A Slipping Clutch Cause

After all these years, might you remember which LUK part number you installed? I'm just now trying to make sure I buy the correct/best LUK product. Thanks.

Help Narrowing Down 1988 F-250 7.3 IDI N/A Slipping Clutch Cause

There are a huge number of LUK SMF's that purport to fit my truck. Which LUK part # do you recommend? I'm guessing the LUK 07-225. Is that the 12" clutch that's been recommended? Thanks.

Help Narrowing Down 1988 F-250 7.3 IDI N/A Slipping Clutch Cause

Thank you. Will go with the LUK option. One last question -- I'm old enough now that I can't bench press a transmission anymore. What transmission jack will work/fit the best for the ZF in my truck? I do not have a hoist in my shop, so truck will be at ground level.

Help Narrowing Down 1988 F-250 7.3 IDI N/A Slipping Clutch Cause

So if I'd like to go to the single mass flywheel, exactly which product should I buy? Is anything made in the USA anymore? Or if overseas-made, I'd like to install the best design & quality. Help on making the best choice for SMF, please.

Help Narrowing Down 1988 F-250 7.3 IDI N/A Slipping Clutch Cause

If it's only the friction slipping in the DMF (I don't get any of the idling-in-neutral rattle I've read about when the DMF's springs are failing/breaking), am I in any danger of continuing to drive it this way until this winter when I can do the SMF conversion? Has anyone posted a video of the...

Help Narrowing Down 1988 F-250 7.3 IDI N/A Slipping Clutch Cause

On two occasions, after many miles on long trips pulling a loaded trailer, at full throttle in 5th overdrive at 65-70 MPH I have observed the engine accelerate several hundred RPMs due to the clutch (or ???) slipping. On the first occasion I backed out of it immediately and dropped down a gear...

    lightweight travel trailers.

I found a 1966 Avion T-21. The furnace and bathroom have been removed, but the shell seems to be in pretty good shape. Thewespaul was very helpful to me in making the decision, what a great resource Wes has been first for my truck and now for this. Among the "parts are still plentiful" I...

    lightweight travel trailers.

Do you have the complete URL for "etrailers" website? A Google search just comes up with etrailer.com. Etrailer.com sells trailer parts, etc., but I don't see that they sell travel/camping trailers. Need the link to the website you're talking about, please.

    Getting hard to start lately

Mine was always the fuel filter. I know you said you just changed it. But the 7.3 IDI I bought had been sitting in the Pacific Northwest for seven years, and it took a long time and a lot of filter changes to finally start getting clean Diesel out of those tanks. So my guess would be: fuel...

Interest in gauge pods for bulls and bricks?

Me too. I'd be buying the gauge set to know what's going on with the truck/engine and for the instructions on how to install & eliminate or supplement the ridiculous factory "gauges" in my 1988 F250. Thank you.

Glow Plug System Seems to Work but Not Get Hot Enough to Start Engine

Black dawg nailed it. The "wait to start" light goes out before the glow plugs are fully heated (after about 10 seconds). If I wait another 10 seconds after the light's gone out, the relay starts clicking and the engine starts immediately. Thank you to everyone who helped -- you're the best...
