    2001 7.3l PSD - VR location?

I went ahead and replaced it this morning. It seems to have gone OK save for the stupid PATS system. The only way I can get it to start is to hold the under-dash button while I crank. If I just try and start it, it triggers the immobilizer. I'm trying to figure out how to...

    2001 7.3l PSD - VR location?

Hi Guys, I replaced my wife's alternator last year with a new/premium unit from O'reilly. About a week ago the warning light started flickering once the unit warmed up, but the batteries stay charged. The flickering is getting much worse, and the voltage swings all over the place with RPM...

    SD perforemance brakes?

The PSD Excursion is notorious for warping front rotors. We warped ours roughly every 22,000 miles. -cuss We decided to not fool around, and ordered a set of cryogenically treated slotted rotors and pads from frozenrotors.com. Freezing them in liquid nitrogen converts the impurities in...

    Cruise Control Problem

I've been looking at the wring diagram. The steering wheel buttons are kind of funny. It looks like the engineers were trying to save pins on the PCM. The switches actually connect various resistors to the PCM inputs, so "coast" is 120 ohms, "set" is 680 ohms, "off" is a dead short, and "on"...

    750/31.5= 23.8 Mpg

We had a "freak occurance" like this happen to us on an Oregon trip a couple years ago. We fueled up in Salem, drove to Astoria. Motored around Astoria for a couple days, and then headed back to Kali. We finally stopped near Sacramento and fueled up because we figured the sender was on the...

    Cruise Control Problem

I've had some problems with my wife's 7.3l Excursion. I've had two incidents where I was running in cruse and had to hit the brakes, and found myself fighting to throttle. The first time was last fall, person in front of me decided to make a surprise unsignaled right turn and I had to get her...

    Hard starting when cold

That's some cell phone! Sounds like your batts don't have much reserve capacity. The plates are sulfated, and they can't take a charge. Before the OEM batts in our PSD Excirsion died, we could run a thermoelectric cooler overnight with no noticeable effect. We left it plugged in...

    Hard starting when cold

I'm not sold on Optimas. I almost put a set in my truck, but I just can't justify the cost. They don't quite have enough cranking amps to get away with just one, and they cost so much more that it's not worth it. The Jeep guys love 'em because they can mount them anywhere, in any position...

    Fppf

My 6.9IDI loves PowerService, but my wife's Excursion doesn't seem to benefit. You got a pointer to the scoop? What's wrong with PowerService?

    Make your own Bio-Diesel?

You can whip up a batch in your kitchen blender if you want to. I wouldn't use the blender for anything else afterwards. Scaling up the operation isn't hard, but you have to have a good healthy fear of the chemicals involved. They're moderately hazardous household chemicals by themselves, but...

    Hard starting when cold

OT but... There was a bunch of turbo pedistals in 01 that had casting defects. Our Excursion has been through two in 60K mi. One for a cracked pedistal, and the second because they didn't fix it right the first time. I'd start with the simple stuff. Have you cleaned the battery terminals...

    Ford forum missing...

There's two completely different 7.3l engines. There's the 7.3l IDI, which is a bored out 6.9l with some minor tweaks, and the 7.3l PSD, a completely different beast. Probably best to just merge the 6.9 & 7.3 IDI's into a single forum. Rob
