    Caterpillar 1693 (D343) 425hp engine

I'm selling a strong running Caterpillar 1693 engine from a USAF Airport Crash Response Fire Truck. The truck odometer shows 013400 miles and the hour meter on the engine shows 290 hours. This engine ruled the road through the 70's and is also commonly used in large boats. I'm asking $5000 OBO...

    Changing from a C-6 to a ZF S5-42 manual trans w/hydraulic clutch in a E-350 w/6.9

I'll see if I can get some help with pictures as I understand some changes were made on the site recently that might affect the process of posting pics. I should update this anyway right now about an issue I'm having. The fingers on the pressure plate sold to me had to small of a center dia at...

I just acquired a '93 model IDIT 190HP turbo engine, tips and info please?

Opinion noted however it only has 5" of suspension lift over it's OEM height. I began with a OEM 4x4 van and it always had incredible stability. I don't think an extra 5" is going to make that much of a difference considering I'm seen other 4x4 vans with as much as 10" of lift. Also my OEM front...

No not even close all the core suppliers here said they had dozens of 460 cases sitting on shelves that just don't sell and no one in DFW, TX was interested in my old 460 case. I sold it dirty at the recycle for enough to buy lunch one day

I just acquired a '93 model IDIT 190HP turbo engine, tips and info please?

I'm having trouble getting my 6.9 nto start again after it sat for 3 months. I never removed or drained the fuel filter so I thought it would keep it's prime but maybe it didn't? I did have all the fuel lines open below the lift pump and I had both tanks out for months. It fired up for just a...

I just acquired a '93 model IDIT 190HP turbo engine, tips and info please?

No I sold it for scrap. I do however have an extra 4x2 ZF S5-42 complete for a 7.3 sitting in my garage along with the 4x4 unit I put the case on and is in my van. I picked it up so cheap I couldn't pass on it

    Changing from a C-6 to a ZF S5-42 manual trans w/hydraulic clutch in a E-350 w/6.9

if you're on FB find me there and add me as a friend, tons of pics there in multiple albums dedicated to building this van. I'll try to figure out how to make em show up here but right now I have warm weather and a busy schedule outside working. I'm sure there'll be a cold rainy day eventually...

I just acquired a '93 model IDIT 190HP turbo engine, tips and info please?

The turbo system was nearly a perfect bolt on option for the 6.9. It's on there now, not driven yet but on there. I had to use the 7.3 left valve cover for the crankcase vent location, the pedestal of the turbo was a direct bolt on to the 6.9 intake where the breather used to be and used the...

    Changing from a C-6 to a ZF S5-42 manual trans w/hydraulic clutch in a E-350 w/6.9

OK here's the promised pictures. Sorry for the delay but I've been so busy working I haven't been online much. Here's a pic of all the hydraulic parts assembled on the ground for a ZF manual transmission in a 1985 Ford van. The master cylinder mounts vertically under the floor with a remote...

    ZF-5/NP205 T-CASE INSTALL PIC'S.

I have thought about setting up my 205 for twin sticks, not familiar with the cable shift idea so if you have a link to it please post it here and I'll check it out. Right now though cash is tight and I need it on the road so things are just going back together for now. If the world goes on in...

    ZF-5/NP205 T-CASE INSTALL PIC'S.

It's now installed. I spent about an hour using a Dremel tool and carefully notched the case. It did require removal of one of the bosses that the shifter bracket used to bolt to but that's OK because I can use a single boss with a the single bolt setup that was on my C6

    ZF-5/NP205 T-CASE INSTALL PIC'S.

I'm hoping as old as this thread is that I'll get a response. I have a ZF 5spd I just installed in my 4x4 van, it is the 4x4 model trans. I also have my old Spicer 205 xfer case which used to be behind my C6. I just realized today that the old C6 had a notch cut in it for the linkage to clear on...

    Changing from a C-6 to a ZF S5-42 manual trans w/hydraulic clutch in a E-350 w/6.9

I will take lots of pictures tomorrow when I go back to the salvage yard to purchase the whole setup. I'm not sure where the reservoir is located yet but I don't think it's mounted on teh cylinder.

    Changing from a C-6 to a ZF S5-42 manual trans w/hydraulic clutch in a E-350 w/6.9

Today I got very lucky and actually found a manual trans 85 Ford van at a local salvage yard so I now have my missing pieces and yes, the linkage does go through the floor and the clutch master cylinder is vertical instead of horizontal. Very interesting setup. I also was looking for the correct...

    Changing from a C-6 to a ZF S5-42 manual trans w/hydraulic clutch in a E-350 w/6.9

I found a salvage yard on car-part.com that lists having a clutch master cylinder for a van in stock so I'll call them in the morning to see if hopefully they still have the whole van with clutch pedal and linkage to go with it. If so I'll be making a 90 mile drive to Waco, TX to get a closer...

    Changing from a C-6 to a ZF S5-42 manual trans w/hydraulic clutch in a E-350 w/6.9

OK Ford friends I have a tech question for you. I installed my new brake pedal support with attached clutch pedal in my '85 E-350. I think the salvage yard I bought it from might have shipped me an assembly from a '84 or older though but with nothing to compare it to I can't tell for sure...

I just acquired a '93 model IDIT 190HP turbo engine, tips and info please?

It has yet to be driven with the ZF so time will tell. I decided to get through the entire driveline rebuild before it goes on the road and the front axle has slowed me down waiting on parts. This particular ZF is a wide ratio 5 spd which was behind a 460 engine. Of course it wouldn't bolt to...

I just acquired a '93 model IDIT 190HP turbo engine, tips and info please?

When I said cinder blocks I meant no less than two double stacks at a time and always with a layer of plywood between layers of blocks to prevent breaking and provide even weight distribution, I used about 20 of them at one point. Finding jack stands in the 35" to 48" range isn't easy or cheap...

OK here's a link to my shutterfly account. There's over 200 pics of Alice, my 4x4 van over the last 6 months through all the major rebuild. The pictures are not in order and I haven't taken time to get them in order or fill out descriptions of each picture yet. Everything you see done here was...

Thanks for that info on the balance of the flywheel. I'm running a ZF 5 spd behind my 6.9 and will keep on using it but this engine does have the flexplate for an automatic. Do you know if my 6.9 flywheel will work? It's a single mass flywheel and I'm running a custom made ceramic puck...

I have been trying to figure out how to create an album on this site with lot's of pics I have of building it but I can't find the link on my profile to do it. Maybe I need a paid membership here? I don't know but if you can tell me how to get pictures posted here then I will

I agree the tires look small but those are actually 37/12.50R16.5 military Humvee tires. it's hard to get much bigger in the tires and still maintain good differential components. Too much weight and diameter can be very hard on the differentials but I might go from 37's to 40's next time I do...

I just acquired a '93 model IDIT 190HP turbo engine, tips and info please?

I expected some clearence problems with the turbo so last month I built a 2 1/4" body lift and got it installed already so I have a lot more overhead room in the vans doghouse. It'll still be tight though for sure. Thanks for the tips.
