Original early copper brass radiators vs aluminum

Working at a mustang/falcon shop in the 80s/90's, we stopped selling import radiators (@$30 cheaper). Not because of the quality, but because they had smaller diameter tubes than the usa built radiators. The smaller tubes would clog up way quick because the customer didn't power flush the...

Need advice on battery cable replacement kit

Cool. Yeah, I figured I'd turn 2400+rpm @ 70 with 235/60/15's, which is better than 3K with my 3.00's. My dad has passed, so I'm trying to finish mustang so my mom can drive it before she's not able to drive it anymore. It's just the stock 289/2bbl with C4. Just to putt around town and easy...

Need advice on battery cable replacement kit

IDIBronco, how do you like the 2.47 gears in your f150? I installed a 2.47 rearend in my dad's 67 mustang years ago, but we still haven't tried them out yet.

Need advice on battery cable replacement kit

Went down to Wallymart and bought two, group 29 marine / 875MCA, threaded top post batteries. Installed them and ****!!!! 6.9 starts up within a split second!! Unbelievable!!!! $293 with 2 year, 100% warranty for both batteries. I hope my next updated battery post will be in 4-6 years...

Need advice on battery cable replacement kit

IDIBronco, Yeah, I agree with you. But I also found that marine/deep cycle batteries are made to take more vibration and a beating, compared to regular auto batteries. And figuring boats use these and are charged the whole time on the lake while listening to radio. Figured our IDI's are...

Need advice on battery cable replacement kit

Haven't gotten new cables yet because I've been looking to go to 29 or 31 batteries with studs as that's what my battery cable is currently set up for. (Cables are bolted/sandwiched to regular crappy post clamps, which is were the corrosion is happening, plus batteries are past due on...

rearend width on cab/chassis/flatbed vs. dually truck

Do the cab/chassis early 2000's, F450's/550's have a narrower rearend than the regular dually trucks of same years? I'm aware that the F350's cab/chassis have narrower rear axles. Working on a project and I'd like to use an F450/550 rear axle the same width as my cab/chassis F350 axle. Thanks

Transmission upgrade on my 83 4x4

I just did a zf5 swap on my 86', 6.9, 4x4 dually (replaced c6). Definitely don't use the 6.9 flywheel; you'll have to modify clutch fork as the 6.9 fw is @ 1/2" narrower than the zf5/7.3 fw. And you'll get a shitload of rollover tranny noise. I then pulled a dual mass flywheel setup from an...

Need advice on battery cable replacement kit

Is the only difference the flat or 90 degree angle for the starter? Trucks seem to be the same size engine compartment and battery location, regarding if a 6.9, 7.3 or PS.

Need advice on battery cable replacement kit

Nero, OUCH!!! $400 for a cable set!! I'd rather spend that $$ on new batteries. I made new cables 3 years back with good terminals, but I live next to the coast and the terminals have gotten dirty, open twice now. I'd rather go with a set that is factory crimped with the shrink tubing on...

Need advice on battery cable replacement kit

Looking to replace all battery cables on my 1986 f350. Only finding cable kits listed for 93' and newer powerstroke. Will these work on my 86'? Thanks in advance

    Possible diesel in oil crankcase??

I'll start with my lift pump. I put a brand new one on, but maybe it's defective? By removing the lift pump, will I be able to see a leak/residue? Or just hand pump it and look to see if it's leaking? When I compression tested engine, all cylinders were in the mid 400 range so hopefully it's...

    Possible diesel in oil crankcase??

I just did a zf5 swap and at same time replaced my 6.9 with a supposedly good used 6.9 that had been sitting for @ 5 years or so. Started right up and seems to run good. But I thought I had a valve cover oil leak that was dripping down on exhaust pipe, from exhaust manifold on driver side...

Clutch Kit Suggestions for ZF5 Swap

I just did a C6 to zf5 swap in my 86' 6.9. Someone told me to use a 6.9, 4speed flywheel behind my 6.9 for balance purposes (bullcrap, you can use the SMF conversion or the 7.3 DMF on the 6.9). I did and modified my clutch fork to compensate for the thinner 6.9 flywheel (I work at a welding...

"Engineering Study Exchange Program" Decal on ZF-5 (1987 F-250)

Here's my tag from Oct. 31, 1987. My truck is registered as an 88'.

"Engineering Study Exchange Program" Decal on ZF-5 (1987 F-250)

I resealed my tranny and added another 3+ quarts of fluid through shift hole; and added a good layer of insulation under rubber floor matt. It did help quiet it down in the cab, but when you open the door it's crazy loud echoing off the street, etc. Get your smf conversion done and let me...

"Engineering Study Exchange Program" Decal on ZF-5 (1987 F-250)

I have the same sticker on my zf5 on my 88' parts truck. I'll look and check dates. I have always wondered what that sticker meant. The truck ran/drove fine when I bought it 10+ years ago. Hudonville, let me know how the solid mass flywheel works. I just did the zf5 swap to my 86' f350...

    ZF-6 2WD Conversion to 88' 7.3

I'll check out what speedo options are available. I'd need a speedo for sure, and would like to use my original location, but could do w/o an odometer. Thanks for info!!!!

    ZF-6 2WD Conversion to 88' 7.3

U2slow, Thanks for the link; it pretty much sums up what needs to be done for zf6 onto 7.3idi. I could make the stepped spacer for the top two bolts, but would send out a SMF to be redrilled to accept a PSD 13" pressure plate, disk, etc. Clutch master/slave could be figured out as well...

    ZF-6 2WD Conversion to 88' 7.3

Lotzastuff, I want the zf6 to have 5 good usable gears + the granny 1st and granny reverse. U2slow, I'm going to check my other truck to see how the 5speed bolts to the 1" spacer and to the block. W/o the spacer, what would the trans bolt to?

    ZF-6 2WD Conversion to 88' 7.3

Putting together a 88', 2WD work truck with 7.3 idi. 1. Will a 7.3-zf6 be a straight bolt in to my 88'-7.3? From scouring the forums, it seems like I would delete the thick, steel plate as the zf6 has a thicker bell housing flange? 2. Can I use the zf6 flywheel/clutch set up on my idi...

Will T19 Transfer case bolt to ZF5? (84' Auto to 5-speed conversion.)

Ok cool!! Thanks guys!! Here are some pics of my modified clutch fork so I can use my thinner, 6.9 flywheel. I spaced everything off the dims from buddy's 88', 7.3+zf5. You can see the even wear on the fork fingers when it's resting on TO bearing.

Will T19 Transfer case bolt to ZF5? (84' Auto to 5-speed conversion.)

Finally got trans and TC in!! Does the TO bearing always ride on the Pressure Plate fingers? My buddies 88' with 5 speed has the TO Bearing riding/touching the Pressure Plate fingers. On my old fords with mechanical linkage, the TO Bearing didn't ride the fingers.

Will T19 Transfer case bolt to ZF5? (84' Auto to 5-speed conversion.)

Got engine in Monday!~!! But what is this vent/screw in deal that goes into the intake pan. I checked my other parts motors and one has solid plug pushed in and other one had dirt filling up the hole were the 3/8'' socket drive goes. 1st pic shows solid plug in parts engine. 2nd, 3rd pic...

Will T19 Transfer case bolt to ZF5? (84' Auto to 5-speed conversion.)

I was able to press cam gear back on my parts engine with a piece of 7/16-20 all thread and nut/washers. But I'm having real back luck with this swap. When I picked up my flywheel at machine shop Fri, I left my good, less worn lobe on the counter!! hahahaha!!! I just have to laugh about it...
