    What is this bracket for?

Factory jack is a screw jack so won't leak down if left in place long term. It is a micro adjustable jack stand. I like them so much I bought several at the PicknPull. I'm surprised Old Goat didn't snag them first,

    Rear Main Seal Questions

The Ford kit linked in Old Goat's post is the one I used. I think it was branded Navistar. The installation tool is plastic and the plastic dowels index the tool to the FW bolt holes in the crank. It was supposed to be used without removing the rear cover, and installed by tapping (pounding)...

    Rear Main Seal Questions

I am pretty sure the OEM Navistar seal kit containing a sleeve has a thicker sleeve than the Speedy Sleeve. That kit has an installation tool and the rear cover isn't removed. I installed that kit and after it still leaked I realized as the OP that my leak was at the oil pan corners. SKF has a...

    Rear Main Seal Questions

The manual says to use a seal protector over the crank end when installing the rear cover and coat the seal lip with a thin film of oil. I used a large yogurt container cut down. After the plate is in position remove the seal protector. Be sure to use plenty of RTV in the corners of the oil...

'97 and earlier diesels are smog exempt in California, so they are desirable. The prices folks are asking in the nearby state of Nirvana reflect this.

Removing 6.9/7.3 Adaptor Plate with Starter

I like to use alignment dowels to R&R the flywheel , Replace a couple of the bolts with same thread and heads cut off. No way I could hold it in place to start bolts without them.

The problem with new brake shoes and the parking brake.

Living in snow country I got the habit of never applying the parking brake, so no issues. When I got my current truck the cable was rusted in the housing and the actuator had milled the seal end off the hub.

lets see your custom CCV concoctions

I used a Goldenrod filter as a catch can. I used the stainless mesh in place of a paper filter and added a stainless pot scrubber around the mesh. I'' hose from oil fill adapter and CDR into intake. My ring seal got progressively worse and blow by was filling the catch can, so in a sense it was...

New injector pump install this weekend

Sometimes a person will remove the whole assembly by removing the gear housing with the gear attached to the pump, then realize they have no way to put things back correctly timed.

Sad day and clutch (I thought...)

I have pulled my T19 this way. Doesn't leave a lot of room to remove clutch, flywheel, bell. I use alignment dowels as stated earlier to aid installation. Your engine will drop down in the rear when the trans is removed, so should support it. I am not a fan of jacking under the oil pan, but have...

What is the 6.9-7.3idi hypermax turbos?

Exhaust size is 3.5". The Hypermax cowl intake is a plastic piece the size of the intake on the stock air filter housing. The Hypermax kit utilizes the original air filter. I don't know if the stock brake booster leaves enough room but it probably does. Hydroboost leaves plenty of room. If I am...

What is the 6.9-7.3idi hypermax turbos?

I bought a Hypermax kit. The turbo is a Garrett T04B69. I don't know what that means, but I don't think it is anything special. That was years ago so they may be doing something else now. Kit should work on 6.9 or 7.3 IDI. The only difference is the up pipes for auto or manual trans I think. I...

Bad sound on a fresh rebuild (video)

With IP removed and gear cover in place, the gear can rock side to side but there isn't enough clearance for it to jump a tooth. If rotating the engine inverted the gear can hang up on the block edge and stop rotation. I used an old IP to keep the gear in place to prevent this.

Question about Bullnose windshield cowling: plastic plug placement

If you have that much debris in the cowl the drains in front of the doors are probably full. You can access by removing the kick panels with the sliding vents. Removing debris from above will not damage the duck bill drains. I park under a pine tree and am constantly picking needles out before...

Not to beat a dead horse..

Check out your fan clutch. Make sure it isn't wobbly. I had play in mine and it was ******* water pumps until I realized I needed a new clutch. I have run without the clutch and fan in winter without issue. edit: the censoring app is pretty amusing.

Hard starting after sitting over night, pretty sure air is getting in!

It looks like there are some olives in the picture of the kit. Mel would include the better viton o-rings so those should be good. Here is what I bought at McMaster: https://www.mcmaster.com/50385k83/

Hard starting after sitting over night, pretty sure air is getting in!

Did the return kit contain "olives"? They are like a short (1/4") length of fuel hose. There are olives at the hard line connections in several places, sort of like a compression fitting. Mcmaster Carr calls them vibrolock. The line from the fuel filter to the IP and I believe the fuel filter...

    Oil filter and wrenches??

My local Walmart has the Motorcraft powerstroke fl1995 filters for around $12. The filter is larger and holds more oil but will fit an IDI. I am able to remove filters with a strap wrench. I do it with the oil hot, so it may turn easier than cold.

    Glow Plug borescope picture help

You could rotate the engine with a breaker bar and see if it comes to a stop when the piston with the broken GP comes to the top. Possible it broke off long ago and has already left an imprint in the piston. Someone said they fished one out by removing the exhaust manifold. I can't vouch for the...
