When I was working for a logging outfit in high school the night mechanic was working on a 3406A Cat and when he put the governor housing back on he didn't get it hooked right. When we fired it up it went to full fuel and that was the scariest sound I've ever heard.I ran out of the shop and just...
That is definitely one fine looking truck! And Brads right,a little change here a little change there the 400 will run like hell and get twice the mileage of any 460.Hope he gets his asking price.
What I want is the 4.14 from the diesel and the 2.97 2nd frfom the gasser vs the 2.4? or whatever the diesel has.I dont need the lower 1st for this truck. Its not gonna tow anything more than my quad trailer, but is going to have 40" tires so i'd like to use first sometimes and not have the bigass...
Has anyone tried to swap gears around in a zf?I'd like the diesel first gear while using the rest of the gears from a gasser.I know it sounds goofy, but it would really tighten up the ratios, getting rid of as much of a jump from 1-2.
I'd check the front shackles and their mounting holes as well.On two of my trucks the holes were a little egg shaped and would wobble at all different speeds.
I dont really remember the numbers, but I had the guts from an 87 with a 460 put into a diesel case that I got from a tranny shop.He said it was from an 88,it only took him a couple hours.he said it was a simple swap.I just dont know what trannies were available when.:dunno Hope this helps
You could get an extra cab shortbed with a diesel and auto.Had one for a work truck. It was a 96.Ford didnt use a 60 in the front of anything from 80-85.5,at least nothing that I have seen or heard of.
Ive got a 2wd 94 that the core motor came out of,and i plan to put all of the dash and wiring in it and the rear end.so I hope that with the wiring the speedo will work:dunno
I bought a 99 F450 with a bad motor and I am going to use the turbo and I/C.If I can use the 6spd then I will.I already sold the trucks shell for more than I paid for it and then got another $300 for the engine. The tranny only has about 8K on it.
I've tried to talk him out of 4",but thats what he wants,so thats what I'll give him. He's paying so he gets what he wants. For mine I'm goin with a 3" downpipe and 4" exhaust.
Well a year to get ready sounds like a lot of time for me to get ready, but, that time will fly by I'm sure.I guess I better get this clunker of mine tore down for that long of a trip.
We are thinking of trying to slide the engine forward an inch and cutting the firewall and welding in a 5" exhaust piece to make it work.and my buddy found a 4" downpipe somewhere online for the powerstroke turbo we are going to use.Has anyone even managed to mount one of these under the hood...
