In my ‘94 Crew Cab I moved the batteries to the frame with some custom mounts. I decided to use “H8” batteries as they are short enough to stay above the frame rail mostly. We also use this same battery in a few other cars in the old fleet.
I used cheap plastic “toolbox” as a battery cover...
When I built my custom downpipe for my ‘94 I actually used a 6.7 Cobrahead (EBay) on my IDI as my assumption was that if it flowed enough for 400hp it was more than enough for my old 7.3l.
I learned that there are at least two different versions and they use an oddball size clamp. I modified it...
Sad to hear. My condolences to Russ’ family.
Over the years I’ve ordered a few parts from Russ and sent him a few camshafts I had pulled from scrapped motors. His insights and care for the IDI community will be sorely missed.
I started up an IDI on an engine stand last week. Fuel lines were empty and I couldn’t find my electric lift pump; so had to crank it up through the stock mechanical pump. I tried the gas soaked rag for the first time. It worked much better than ether; just have to make sure it doesn’t get...
No OBD2; there is a way to run the Edge just on sensors. It requires a separate 12v key on input. It’s in the manual, but not very well documented.
Works great. I have EGT, boost psi, turbo out temperature, intake temperature and ambient temperature currently hooked up.
I’ve been thinking about putting a double din stereo with a larger screen, but the thought of trying to get one to fit and the prices of the better units have kept me from doing it.
Carplay in my commuter car has spoiled me. Love using Waze and listening to podcasts all hands free. So when I...
Not much going on with the truck. We again traveled to southern Utah to find some sun, but ended up in weather colder than home!
Yesterday was much warmer, but it’s usually in the high 50s to low 60s this time of year. First time I’ve ever seen snow this low out here.
A few cool old rigs...
No, I haven’t seen that one. Looks freaking awesome. Got a link?
Have you ever watched the DieselPumpUK guys pump and OM build Utube videos? I have watched hours of his stuff. Those billet pumps he builds are pretty incredible.
It’s always a time suck. I hate it too, but it’s super satisfying to know it’s done right.
Looking good! I shared this with my brother as he is building a Ranchero of the same era currently.
Thanks!
The back gas was just to prevent “sugaring”; stainless that has sugaring will fail fairly quickly. It welded about the same. This being my first shot at it, I’m happy with the results.
Yes, the buried in the sand trick was to try and slow the cooling down as much as possible. It was...
IIRC one of the GM IDI guys (N8t8r??) also found that making the feed line from the inside of the tank larger made a big difference in the pumps ability to keep up at high loads.
Any thoughts on that side of the equation?
I’m setting my pump and filters up almost exactly like yours; debating...
I’m hoping that is exactly how this will work. I made it to fit my intake elbow; the canister is open on one end and sealed on the other. I’ll use a short piece of hose between the paint gun regulator and the canister.
My truck sounds similar as far as starting and smoke. I backed my timing off to 7.5 to see if it would help, but it’s still got a gray haze.
Your post got me to thinking about what else could be contributing. Could the CDR just be allowing too much through the intake?
Mine always has a bit of...
Sorry to be a post hog.
I now know that my hot side has no leaks, but I want to test my cold side. Suspect that I may have an intake leak.
Home-brewed a leak tester. Hoping to try it out tomorrow.
The red one! lol
Funny enough; none of them! I had to borrow my wonderful wife’s Willys to go!
My rig is down and I just ran out of time before the trip.
It turned brutal cold here this last two weeks;
It’s usually near 70 in October. Hard to get projects done when it’s freezing!
Well, we camped near Arches National Park. Towing involved pulling a 23’ car hauler loaded with a Jeep and our camper over Spanish Fork Canyon. Not sure how heavy, but not a light load for sure. I was able to do the speed limit all the way over, except for one steep section that slowed me to...
