What's this in the oil pan?

It's ferrous, but doesn't appear to be magnetic. I will check that again to be sure

What's this in the oil pan?

Ah! I bet you're right. The front cover was off of the engine years ago, so it would have been disturbed. I'll compare with a parts engine

What's this in the oil pan?

Just confirmed that it's smaller in diameter than the locating dowel for the IP drive

What's this in the oil pan?

    That's what I first thought

What's this in the oil pan?

Found in the bottom of the oil pan while doing an oil change. 92 E350, N/A, runs good. No noises. Lifter parts? The mech fuel pump has been deleted and blocked off, so not from that.

Could Someone Explain How These Valve Stem Seals Are Supposed to work

I don't run positives on the exhaust. Minimal oil consumption. These guides need all the lube they can get

17 years later I did a compression test

    465. Don't see that everyday

94 idit idles rough when warm

Do you know how many miles are on the injection pump? They don't last forever and can do strange things as they wear out. And injection pump timing, do you know where it's set at? I would start with these 2 things.

    Engine stand

It works good. Simple and cheap.

    Engine stand

One of mine is a crude cut-away of an engine cross member, welded to some truck frame. Doesn't allow for spinning however, but it's an example of something that it can sit on, other than a conventional stand. Doesn't allow for removal of the oil pan, unless you modify the section of...

    Valve Stem Seals

No notable increase in oil consumption running no ex valves seals in the most recent 6.9 I put together. A bit of blue smoke for a few seconds on acceleration after long periods of deceleration (down a mountain pass or something) or long periods of idling. Might be coming from the lack of...

Hybrid factory turbo collector to Banks turbo, ideas please.

Yup, 2000+ for sure. I can reach max by 2500 id say. Seems to flat line after that, at least with the level of fuel it's getting. With my driving style, im never really over 2500.

Hybrid factory turbo collector to Banks turbo, ideas please.

Ah the great part about vans, the access the doghouse allows for!

Hybrid factory turbo collector to Banks turbo, ideas please.

Gave it a shot. It helped a bit. It's at approx 6.5 degrees now. Boost begins to build a bit sooner, but no drastic change. no change in max boost. Knocked the smoke back a bit of course. No complaints. I think I will leave it here. I don't really care to see big boost numbers, 9-10 is...

I'll give that a shot and will report back

Hybrid factory turbo collector to Banks turbo, ideas please.

Well it's installed and in service. I honestly cannot tell the difference in performance going from the factory convoluted up pipes to this short, custom 093 style up pipe. It's making 9lbs max at high 2000's rpm's, 1.5-2lbs cruising at 1600rpms and doesn't really start building anything more...

    Rebuilt engine maintenance

Yup, i'm all about re-torquing head bolts as preventative maint. They're always pretty loose if they've never been touched before. I've never blown a head gasket on an idi, with this practice and of course driving them as a slow old diesel is intended on being driven.

6.9 & 7.3 idi electric fan clutch conversion

Installing mine right now. Haven't put it to the test yet, but all the components are quality made and installation is straight forward. Looking forward to using it

Hybrid factory turbo collector to Banks turbo, ideas please.

Indeed. I've always like that and the simplicity about the 1st gen, non gated Banks turbos. Which was the main reason I decided to use it.

Hybrid factory turbo collector to Banks turbo, ideas please.

Well I got something put together here. Not the prettiest, totally custom with what I had, but it's leak free so far. Should have this thing installed later this week and I will report back with results.

Axle Flange Gaskets - Do You Use ?

If I have some, i'll use them. But ended up using RTV more times over using a gasket, due to unexpected need to pull axles, without having new gaskets on hand first. Never had an issue either way.

6.9 fuel economy after turbo add and fuel screw increase

Yes, under towing or high altitude situations, that's when you'll see a bit of an improvement in MPG with a turbo compared to N/A, but day to day putting around you won't notice much.
