So what did you do with your truck today?

@farmerrock, seems like one of those old dot-mil trailer bodies would make a great pickup bed.

Does anyone have a video of installing a Banks Sidewinder?

Looks like I have the earlier model, then. Just gonna have to bolt up a tranny to the block and see what fits, I guess.

Does anyone have a video of installing a Banks Sidewinder?

I'm not sure there's a pedestal for this? I've attached the manual I found on Banks' site: on page 4, Item 27 is the cast iron up pipe, which has the finger I think is supposed to go where the chunk gets cut out of the transmission. From my first reading of the instructions, that is what fixes...

Does anyone have a video of installing a Banks Sidewinder?

I've dug a wastegated sidewinder out of my parts pile, and it looks to be complete, with all the exhaust and intake plumbing. I'll have Russ Repair rebuild and upgrade the turbo, and then it's ready to install...but the installation manual has me cutting pieces off the transmission housing! Is...

Blew a head gasket, what parts am I gonna need?

I've towed some pretty big stuff with this, and never had a cooling issue. We don't have a lot of hot days up here. I'd like to do that cooling mod anyway, but I'd need a hi-res photo with circles and arrows to point the way. I bet there's photos on here, but I haven't found'em yet. My eventual...

Blew a head gasket, what parts am I gonna need?

This is my daily driver and I kinda need it running, so I really am in a hurry. The machine shop can't do anything more than put the heads on a belt sander to clean'em up, so if they're significantly warped, he can't do much. I guess he'd need a surface grinder to actually flatten them...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Blew the head gasket on my '89 crew cab last Tuesday. Figured it out when I got to work, and saw clouds of steam when I parked. Opened the hood, could see it spouting antifreeze mist out the front of the engine, passenger side. There was quite a bit of pressure in the radiator, it's was bubbling...

Blew a head gasket, what parts am I gonna need?

I figure I need intake gasket/valley pan, valve cover and of course head gaskets. What am I missing? I need to get this into and out of the shop quickly so I don't want to get hung up waiting for parts in the middle of it. It's my '89 crew cab, everything is stock far as I know.

So what did you do with your truck today?

I'd expect to see bubbles in the radiator if you're getting combustion gas into the coolant.

    Power windows

Found 'em on there, in sets of three. I only have one rig with those stinkin' power windows, so a couple of those should keep me a long time. Thanks!

@Jesus Freak, got a link to those on Rock Auto? I can't get their stupid site to load today.

    Ninth Glow Plug

If it runs smoother with a little after-glow, you should probably do it? On my mercedes I've noticed that the four plugs keep on drawing 20-30A for 20 seconds or so after the light goes out. It's a bit more cold blooded than the IDIs, strangely enough. I should probably check the compression...

Manual shut off for inj. Pump

As I understand the shutoff solenoid, it has to have power to keep the fuel flowing. I would really like to have a manual shutoff to replace it so I could keep the engine running when the truck loses power. If anybody finds a source, post it up here, please!

Anyone in Interior Alaska want a 6.9 parts engine?

I have a couple in Delta Junction, don't want both. If you can come pick one up it's yours.

    7.3idi decarbonizing water steam

I once watched an old boy with a steady hand rev up a gas engine and trickle water from a coke bottle into the carb. He poured just fast enough that the rpms started to drop. He got away with it. I'd expect that to hydrolock our engines.

3-1/2 center to bed, in my case.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Mine has a whopping 3-1/2" swing, and that same 24" bed. It'll do to learn on, until I stumble across something a little bigger.

An interesting report on wear factors in Stanadyne DB2 pumps

@Thewespaul has probably seen a lot more failed pumps than these 10, but this might be interesting to him.

An interesting report on wear factors in Stanadyne DB2 pumps

Yes, the report mentions an Arctic conversion kit with much harder components to minimize wear with dry fuels. Looks like the dry fuels mostly wore the transfer pump and hydraulic head assembly. Here's something interesting from the report: Fortunately, we are unlikely to have hot fuel when...

Brainstorming a cab for this bus

I've seen people "blank off the back" with a plywood plug. The body guys turn up their noses, but it works.
