Rocker Arm - Valve Cover Interference

Problem solved. New rockers are on the left and center. Old rocker is on the right. New rockers are quite a bit taller. I'm going to grind them down, clean the hell out of them, and reinstall. There was no way that the cam had increaased the lift enough to make those kind of dents. Thanks for...

Rocker Arm - Valve Cover Interference

They are either Sealed Power or Melling. I can't remember which. You would be hard pressed to find in my posts where I have blamed the cam. Re-read post #4 for what I have said about the cam. Edit: My apologies. It does sound a bit like I blamed the cam at first. I wasn't really, though. I...

Rocker Arm - Valve Cover Interference

I replaced the rocker arms, pushrods, and lifters. All were listed as stock replacement. The rocker arms are Sealed Power R1119. The pushrods are Sealed Power RP-3237. Pushrod length is listed as either 9.989" or 10.013", depending on where you look. They are 7.3 rockers on 6.9 heads. I don't...

Rocker Arm - Valve Cover Interference

Will do. I'm planned on putting the RDT anyway since I'm planning on intercooling and don't want that filling up with oil. I want to run it all tue way out back, with a catch can as far back as possible. I figure that by the time the oil mist gets back there it will have had time to condense...

Rocker Arm - Valve Cover Interference

Yeah, but I was thinking that I might have to cut the spot welds so that it wouldn't distort the gasket surface. But cutting the spot welds would leave all kinda of metal particles trapped behind the baffle.

Rocker Arm - Valve Cover Interference

One thing is for sure, I am not going back to the stock cam. I love how this motor runs. I'm going to pull the camping trailer for the first time this weekend, so I'm going for the quick double gasket fix.

Rocker Arm - Valve Cover Interference

I'm pretty certain that they are torqued down. I just put the wrench on them again today because I thought they might have loosened and that what was causing the noise. They are probably over-torqued now because I turned them a bit more than what I had previously set them with the torque wrench...

Rocker Arm - Valve Cover Interference

I finally pulled the valve cover to determine what has been making a strange tapping noise. The extra lift on my new Typ4 cam has my rocker arms hitting the CDR baffle. I guess I'll have to switch to and RDT so that I can run a valve cover without the baffle. Until then I'm going to glue two...

    6.9 IDI Build

I found the problem. I hadn't fully tightened up one of the cross-over pipe flanges. :dunno I figured it out when I went to change the oil and noticed all the soot on one side of the oil pan. After tightening it up it is running much better. Only a lot of smoke when I just get on the peddle. It...

    6.9 IDI Build

Thanks! It was a lot of work and fun. I would do it again. On another vehicle, of course. Ideally this one will last.

    6.9 IDI Build

I have 55 miles on the engine now. I just went on a 50 mile round trip to hit some hills. I'm liking the power that this thing is making but it is throwing major black smoke. I'm guessing that I need to time the motor. Maybe adjust the waste gate. I think my old motor produced more boost. I have...

e4od and how much to toughen it up?

BTS quoted a transmission for me at around 5000. I found a guy here in northern california to build me an upgraded one a lot cheaper. It came with all the updated 95 parts. He recommended a billet intermediate shaft to make it bullet-proof, being that it is the weakest part in the trans. I don't...

    6.9 IDI Build

Work had really got busy and I just barely got the motor running. However, the 6.9 injector lines that I installed are slightly different than the original 7.3 lines. The shape of the #2 line does not allow the ATS air filter box to bolt up. I'm hoping to be able to just swap the #2 line. I'm...

    1st post. Advice on safely re-starting a 94 7.3

If I was able to get oil to the rings I would think PB blaster would be better. But I think you would have to pull the heads to get it in yhere properly. The 6.9 that I am building had a couple of quarts of rain water in the crankcase too. It seems like it went through the CDR hole on the...

    1st post. Advice on safely re-starting a 94 7.3

If you spray oil into the glow plug holes it is going into the pre-combustion chamber first. It will leak into the cylinder from there and won't lube anything more than the parts of the rings closest to the exhaust ports. But that would probably be the rustiest part, since that is where the...

    Disposing of old antifreeze?

You might check to see if the county has a place that will take it. Over here there is a drop off site that is open a couple of days a week.

    6.9 IDI Build

I've probably had more than that on them, just from the head pressure by filling drain lines to check for leaks. But I still had a 5 gallon bucket underneath it just in case it decided to pop off.

I pressurized the cooling system to 30 psi and held it for 30 minutes. It dropped 1 to 2 psi in this time, but there was the tiniest leak where I blocked off the thermostat housing. Just a few drops. Everthing else was dry. I have done enough hydro-testing of pipe sysyems in oil refineries to...

    6.9 IDI Build

Thanks for your thoughts. That sounds reasonable. Didn't the 6.9's come with 7 psi radiator caps? I wonder if the plugs in the 7.3 heads are what allowed it to go to 13 psi radiator caps.

    6.9 IDI Build

I'm finally at the point where I can pressure test the cooling system. I know Gary @icanfixall pressurized his to 30 or 35 psi on his 7.3. I don't want to go that high because my 6.9 heads don't have the coolant plugs between the heads and intake manifold like the 7.3s have. The gasket in that...
