    Source for new injector nozzles?

Thx Big Bart. I found some source(s) for new nozzles. So the nozzle out of my original Lucas/Cav is a 6801036. Searching on ebay, I found a lot of 4 for $37.98 + $12 shipping. So a bit less than $100 for 8. These appear to be from a factory in Hong Kong. On Aliexpress, I found them...

    Source for new injector nozzles?

Can any of the injector rebuilders (or anyone) comment on where to obtain new nozzles these days? Also, I'd appreciate any insights on what causes an old nozzle to become leaky, and what if anything can be done about it.

Air intrusion on 1990 7.3L f350 with banks turbo

Thx, for now I've sent an inquiry to R&D asking if they can make up a set of their stage1 injectors. If so, that would be a brand new set with an extra performance boost at a reasonable price... fingers crossed.

Air intrusion on 1990 7.3L f350 with banks turbo

Thx, yeah I checked out the online shops for each of these. Looks like Classic Diesel and R&D are out of stock. So the question now is should I buy new or reman from Russ or Conestoga. It seems the pricing works out similarly. For example, rockauto has brand new: GB Manufacturing: $35...

Air intrusion on 1990 7.3L f350 with banks turbo

I went ahead and started a return on those reman injectors. Good thing I was able to test them today. Yeah I wouldn't mind rebuilding my old ones, but afaict the biggest problem is that the nozzles are worn, hence the leaks. From what I've read, the only real fix for that is new nozzles...

Air intrusion on 1990 7.3L f350 with banks turbo

Update: I received a new pop tester and was able to get it primed and working. I started testing the rebuilt injectors I purchased and was not impressed. Well, one I had already installed before, so I didn't remove and test it. I found 3 that seemed to be Ok that popped around 2000, held some...

Air intrusion on 1990 7.3L f350 with banks turbo

Update: I pulled the 7 remaining old injectors today. Copper washers came out with each one, so I was happy about that. It turns out that the first one I pulled previously was in the best shape. Most all the rest had wet tips, even though the truck has been just sitting for about a week...

Air intrusion on 1990 7.3L f350 with banks turbo

So what should I expect after replacing the injectors if I haven't re-timed the IP yet? rough idle? exhaust smoke? poor mileage? not reaching full power? but it should at least run.... right?

Air intrusion on 1990 7.3L f350 with banks turbo

Update: I finally was able to get the injector #7 hard line removed. It attaches to the bottom of the IP, so I had to remove some other lines, and modify (with a grinder) a 5/8 half-moon wrench in order to reach the nut. After much swearing at international and ford, it is off. Upon...

    1990 f250 7.3 idi , no fuel at injectors

I had the same thing happen... fuel out of the filter housing, but not out of the IP. This was after sitting for a couple years. The FSS would click fine, but still no fuel. I took the top cover off the IP and wiggled things around a bit. After that I replaced cover, cranked and observed...

Air intrusion on 1990 7.3L f350 with banks turbo

Update: I just tried a brand new cap from Badger Diesel, made in Germany, not China. It is the old/original style cap. I also cut new hose and very carefully placed it to avoid putting stress on the o-rings. Result: STILL LEAKS OUT THE TOP. (of the cap, not nut) At this point, the only...

Air intrusion on 1990 7.3L f350 with banks turbo

thx for sharing that. It's been unclear to me how a leak in the return system would cause significant air intrusion in the primary. And it seems the answer is: it shouldn't, in isolation. I wonder though if you have the line between fuel filter and injector #1 return cap, or deleted it? I...

Air intrusion on 1990 7.3L f350 with banks turbo

I found the aluminum rails here for $260. https://idiperformance.com/shop/fuel-system/billet-injector-fuel-return-rails/ I like the look and the fact there are no hoses to go bad and leak. otoh, I don't like that it becomes impossible to remove a single injector without removing the rail from...

Air intrusion on 1990 7.3L f350 with banks turbo

Thanks Old Goat. It's good to co-miserate, like therapy for me. :-) Those aluminum return rails look nice. I hadn't heard about that. Thx for the pics. I did consider the brass caps, but as you say they are pricy and right now I only need one, but from what I can tell they were only sold...

Air intrusion on 1990 7.3L f350 with banks turbo

update. Today I pulled the leaky #7 injector and replaced it with a reman stanadyne. The old injector is a UK brand, so apparently it had been replaced at least once. Also I discovered that the top threads were a bit screwed, so it seems it had been mis-threaded in the past, which I think...

yeah, that's my priority next time I can work on it. will update the other thread after.

    How is fuel pressure maintained?

awesome, thank-you! So at least I can eliminate "pressure at schrader after sitting" as any kind of diagnostic, and I think from the various answers I have a better understanding of how the fuel system works.

    How is fuel pressure maintained?

yeah I have a thread about it here: https://www.oilburners.net/threads/air-intrusion-on-1990-7-3l-f350-with-banks-turbo.91331/ I haven't had time to mess with it the past few days, so figured I'd start this thread to maybe learn a little in the meantime. I'm still wondering: if one of you...

    How is fuel pressure maintained?

right. understood. so my question now, is what should happen when the engine is not running? Should that 3-5 PSI remain in the line between the 2 pumps, or it leaks out, eg within 24 hours? I ask because I am suffering from hard starts, and in order to diagnose effectively I think I need...

    How is fuel pressure maintained?

Ok, good to know. So then if I open the schrader valve after the truck has been sitting 24 hours, I should not expect fuel to come squirting out, right? maybe some dribble, but not a pressurized squirt, as it would if it had held 5psi pressure.

    How is fuel pressure maintained?

Ok, I'm trying to understand how the fuel system works, especially the low pressure side. So the pump draws from the tank, through the fuel filter, and into the IP. The fuel filter housing, IP, and injectors are each connected to the return line. The return line returns back to the tank...

Air intrusion on 1990 7.3L f350 with banks turbo

a bit more on that rear injector... when I took the nut off I noticed the mating surface on the line jumped away from the injector about 1/8 in, as if the line is too long. I figured maybe they weren't mating properly and I couldn't seem to fix it by just moving the line, so I bent the line...

Air intrusion on 1990 7.3L f350 with banks turbo

update. I tried some more things. 1. installed new olives in the hardline between fuel filter outlet and IP inlet. One of the old ones was a bit corroded. Also, I noticed that the hard line exterior is a bit pitted on the end with corroded olive. I'm not sure if that is important or not...

Air intrusion on 1990 7.3L f350 with banks turbo

ok, I noticed it had been leaking a bit from under the fuel filter... not like a trickle or even noticeable drops now just idling, but enough that stuff underneath was all grimy from past use. So I figure air was getting in also. I couldn't tell if it was the water separator drain or the...
