    Loss of power under load

Are you using diesel specific oil motor oil like Delo or Rotella? Regardless of color, if you have any foaming in the oil, it will inhibit the hydraulic injectors on a 7.3 PSD from working properly.

    1953 Chrysler Imperial Turbo Diesel

5 or 6 cylinder MB engines are cheap, simple and bullet proof. I'm betting that Chrysler is pretty heavy, but I don't think 150-200 horsepower and 20ish MPG would be too far fetched. I like the 606 engine as they are newer/lower mileage and you can retrofit them with the mechanical pump from...

    Re-Torquing Head Bolts

I love the controversy, creativity and contributive nature of this thread. This subject deserves it's own dedicated thread.

    Allison 6 speed transmision?

Russ has a gasser ZF5 in his white truck, there’s a couple of things you have to do to the bell housing to make it IDI bolt on, I think the bottom holes need to be drilled but the top bolts line up, pretty sure it’s documented with pics on here.

    Re-Torquing Head Bolts

Those are pretty good charge air cooler numbers, and 25 psi is a lot of boost. I love the thought of making things simpler, and I think using radiator fluid for an air to water would definitely make it less complex. My apprehension is that although a water to air intercooler is more inherently...

head gasket, oil cooler O rings, or cavitation?

In theory, the oil pressure should be higher than the coolant pressure, so an oil cooler oring leak really should put oil in the coolant and not vice versa. In theory, communism makes everybody equal and happy too :D You could try to pressurize the coolant system with a regulator and gage and...

    Re-Torquing Head Bolts

Coolant from the engine isn't cold enough to intercool, you'll need to run a separate system with pump/reservoir/etc. If you really want to go air to water, take a look at the intercooler that IDiot used on ASmith's build for some insight. Link attached below. Front mounted air to air...

    Coolant boiling

Running against the governor is not bad in an IDI as long as you start with earplugs and a full tank of fuel :D Glad to hear everything was ok when you got to your destination. One last silly question: how clean is the outside your radiator? The bottom third can collect dirt and/or leaves...

    7.3 swap.

I think a lightweight 1/2 ton bronco with a n/a IDI is an awesome project. I like 8 lug axles on a truck but outside of the added weight of the engine on the front axle, it’s not like you are going to load it up with payload as it’s a bronco. If you keep the tire size reasonable I bet it will...

    Crewcab Project

Interior looks great. That hole looks like classic “Midwest winter salt splash from my crummy inner fenders”, but how on God’s green earth is the Navistar sticker on the valve cover so nice? :dunno That hole is in a pretty inconsequential place. Is there any chance you could weld that hole...

    Coolant boiling

Go get a OEM radiator cap and an OEM thermostat. Change them one at a time (I'd start with the radiator cap) and see if either fixes your issue. If your cap is weak, it will cause the symptom you are describing. CDX825 explained it very clearly: aftermarket thermostats don't work well in...

    Project Queso

Diesel oil in motorcycles makes sense: the shearing action in the transmission and anti-foaming make perfect sense when you consider what wears out oil in the powerstrokes: the hydraulic cycles of the injectors and HPOP break down the oil in similar ways. Diesel oil works very well in...

Assessing a 6.9 out of vehicle

It doesn’t appear to be studded, and if it’s a 6.9 it has the older less desirable rocker arms too. Just remember, if the poster is telling you it’s studded, and it’s not, consider all the things you can’t see until you get the heads and oil pan off. If you need/want the turbo I guess it’s a...

What does this winch bumper fit.. Bricknose or OBS?

I agree, this probably fits an OBS 1992-1997 truck. The bricknose winch bumper usually had a much bigger "flat step" area on the top, use this thread to see a pic of a bricknose winch bumper. Good luck, hope if works out for you ;Sweet...

    hood latch question

Gandalf is right: on my 1992 the backside of the latch was open and could be actuated by fingers. My 1995 has a more boxed in latch, which is interesting because they are the same body style. Yours being a bull nose, it may be completely different, but I agree with gnathv: fix it before it...

    OBS With strange symptoms

Have you tried using Forscan? It seems to work well on PSDs, I have a 1995 and I had no issues connecting to my laptop with a $29 wireless dongle.

    1993 F-350 tow rig

The inside of the cylinders look ok for a rebuild candidate. That #7 is a little odd, and although I would tend to agree on the corrosion possibility, if it was the result of any kind of contaminant, you would think it would be in a more perfect "axial pattern" all the way around the cylinder...

    7.3 idi engine shudder/miss

You know, after watching the video, it sounds pretty healthy. How many miles have you put on it and how hard have you leaned on it? Might be worth a filter full of atf and some hard pulls up a decent grade to see idle quality changes. I’d compression test it too, but atf and a little workout is...

    1993 F-350 tow rig

That coolant system looks a little crusty, but the coolant system is very robust in an IDI, so I’ve got my fingers crossed that you’ll end up with a good bottom end. Lots of motorcycle guys love the Evan’s coolant. Only downside I hear is getting the system super dry before adding the Evan’s.
