    Pyrometer probe depth

I have an Autometer pyrometer and installed it today. My crossover pipe has a 1/4" NPT female bung welded into it and the probe bushing is 1/8" NPT male. If I put a reducer bushing between them this pushes the probe out of the pipe, leaving basically only the tip exposed inside. Is this going to...

    6.9 head studs?

I wouldn't go that route for another reason. The head gaskets have already been compressed with a preset torque when the bolts were installed. Removing the bolts and installing studs, even if done one at a time, alters the compression load on the gasket since studs are usually torqued at a...

    6.9 head studs?

Bought studs for my 7.3 on ebay. $50 less than anywhere else and free shipping.

    Looking at 94 idit 4x4

The transmission needs a speed sensor signal input to shift properly. 92 and newer trucks eliminated the speed sensor on the transmission/t case and use the signal from the rear ABS sensor in the rear axle housing instead. This signal is processed by the PSOM and is used by the transmission and...

    IDIT core value

What's a IDIT core engine worth? I found one on marketplace about 50 miles away, mostly complete minus the turbo, valve covers and flywheel. He says it had 200K miles but was running good when pulled. He's asking $350 for it but it's been listed for over three months so I'm sure he'd take $300...

What should I be looking for in a Turbo search?

I was also looking at the Banks kit last year, but following the advice of several members here I purchased a turbo and intercooler kit from one of the vendors on here instead. I placed the order on February 2nd, 2020 and was told everything would ship within a couple of weeks. I didn't receive...

    3 trucks to make one!

I'd check your state laws. In iowa you can swap a cab with a junked VIN to a good frame, then have it inspected by the DOT and they will give it a new assigned state VIN number. Those numbers are different from factory VIN numbers and will have a state DOT decal placed in the door jamb with the...

    A word about dieselkleen

I've been running two stroke oil for years. I buy the gallon jugs of Super Tech at Walmart and usually add a quart to a full tank of fuel. Probably more than needed but today's fuel sucks.

    Clearance for tire chains

I have a 86 F250 4x4 with the same tire size and I've run chains on all four wheels for years without any problems. But, I only use it for plowing snow.

    another 7.3 glow plug thread.

Also notice the difference between the cars under the Motorcraft logo. Real ones have the front side window blacked out. The fake one in the first picture doesn't.

So what did you do with your truck today?

I finally have a clutch kit after FedEx screwed up the routing. The box looks like it went through a wood chipper but everything appears to be inside and undamaged. I'm hoping it's not too cold outside this weekend so I can get the pump pulled off my parts truck. I'm not running the 110 pump...

    Oil drain pedestal

Trying to finish piecing together a turbo kit on a 7.3 IDI and I need the oil drain pedestal for the factory turbo.

So what did you do with your truck today?

I've invested over $6K in parts trying to get a turbo on this thing and after almost a year of waiting I still don't have enough parts to finish it. I'm more than a little upset right now. Fedex has apparently lost my clutch kit now too. It was supposed to be here yesterday but there have been...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Plans are to start putting the truck back together minus turbo this weekend. I'll have to put the na valve covers back on and rob the injector pump off my 6.9 parts truck so I can run it. I've run out of patience and I need my truck and shop space back.

    Hunting for Geers not deers

I wouldn't call 2000 RPM over revving. You can run these engines against the governor without hurting them. I have 3.55 gears and a 5 speed and I regularly run 2500 RPM or more towing heavy loads in 4th gear. You're better off keeping it in its peak torque range than lugging it.

    Luk or South Bend?

I ordered the Luk kit last night and it should be here by the middle of next week. I'd like to upgrade to a better throwout bearing though. Does the solid flywheel conversion use the same bearing as the stock DMF clutch? I'd like to get one ordered so I don't have to wait for that once the kit...

    Somebody better buy this truck!

EFI badges were only used on 2WD gas brick noses, 4WD gassers got the 4x4 badge and diesels all had the diesel badge regardless of 2 or 4WD so its most likely had a body swap. Also seems suspicious the engine heater is plugged in when it appears to be summer in the photo which points to starting...

    Cracked valve guides

They're both exhaust and I have the nylon umbrella seals on them. As far as I can tell the cracks run the length of the guide boss that sticks out above the head casting, but there is nothing loose or peeling.

    Cracked valve guides

Should I be concerned with the cracked guide bosses? I don't want it breaking off while the engine is running.

    Cracked valve guides

I got my heads back from the machine shop. He replaced two exhaust guides and said the rest were still tight. I didn't notice until after I had them torqued down, but looking through the spring coils I can see both of the old guides cracked when the new ones were pressed or driven in. It looks...

    Luk or South Bend?

Do you think the Luk will handle my power level and use?

    Luk or South Bend?

Do you happen to have the part number for that kit? The Luk kit I'm looking at is 07-131 and it says the disc diameter is 12.25".

    Luk or South Bend?

Guess I'll go with the Luk. Its quite a bit cheaper and my gf drives the truck some too and I know she wouldn't be happy with a stiff pedal. I'm familiar with rollover noise. I plan on overfilling it a quart and hopefully that will help.
