No Speedometer and intermittent tach after Swap

Oh, good a simple mechanical speedometer, not the electronic nightmare I'm fighting on my '94.

So what did you do with your truck today?

    @Austin86250, why?

My wife is very small, with small hands. She could reach just far enough to get the nut on and started.

No Speedometer and intermittent tach after Swap

We're going to need to know what years the base truck and donor were.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Today I drove two hours to pick up a bricknose F350 for parts , and came home with an empty trailer. We went down 15 miles of potholes and washboard - that was an hour of driving right there, the road is BAD - spent an hour cutting brush away from the old rig, took two hi-lift jacks and jacked...

    Arctic Ambulance

The old pig rolled like a boat in a swell, so I'm changing the shocks. The rear shocks were needlessly hard, but the front shocks are worse! There is no clearance to access the top nut on the front shocks. I was able to squeak a wrench in on top of the passenger side, and turn the shock body...

e4od, VSS and US Shift intermittent issue

Darn. The connector I found was for the windshield wiper control, not RABS. I've been thinking RABS, but I noticed there are tone rings and sensors on the front wheels. This old pig has 4 wheel ABS! So I was looking for the wrong connector. That ugly chirping squeal turned out to be one of the...

    Rotella oil deal

I've been running the Rotella T6 5w-40 in all my IDIs for years now. So far so good.

e4od, VSS and US Shift intermittent issue

Nah, probably not the right connector since the light is still on. It surely looks like the sketch of the right connector in the EVTM, though.

e4od, VSS and US Shift intermittent issue

On FTE someone suggested that the RABS module might have a problem and be muting the signal. I unplugged this connector and drove around for half an hour without it recurring. This looks like it might be the RABS connector, but the ABS light on the dash didn't go out. It makes sense that the...

e4od, VSS and US Shift intermittent issue

The cruise control page tells us that the PSOM converts the signal from the VSS into a standard 8,000 pulse/mile signal.

e4od, VSS and US Shift intermittent issue

Yes, US Shift has been helpful, but I didn't understand what the PSOM was. I had completely misinterpreted the info in the EVTM. This is the e4od page of the EVTM which shows the PSOM: What it's actually telling us is what Snicklas and Nero told us: PSOM is the Programmable Speedometer...

    Part ID help

Yeah, I remember that thread. I put the list of fuel lines in there because someone is going to search and find this thread and now it won't be entirely useless, if he's looking for info on fuel lines.

e4od, VSS and US Shift intermittent issue

So, the gray and black wire running into the back of the instrument cluster is carrying a signal _from_ the speedometer/PSOM to the PCM? The palm isn't separate from the speedometer?

e4od, VSS and US Shift intermittent issue

This evening I'll post a page from the EVTM that covers this. From memory it says the PSOM is between VSS and speedo, which doesn't match a lot of the info out there. That mismatch is a big part of my confusion.

To swap or not to swap?

We're getting off topic a bit, so I've started a thread for my e4od issues: https://www.oilburners.net/threads/e4od-vss-and-us-shift-intermittent-issue.93576/

e4od, VSS and US Shift intermittent issue

I recently bought a US Shift controller and installed it in my '94 ambulance. I like the way it shifts, I like the visibility it gives me into the transmission. It hasn't solved the problem that periodically the trans downshifts to 1st and won't upshift. It was doing this occasionally with the...

Return line setup without original filter

I think several others here have done what you've done, and I have the parts riding around in the back of the truck to do the same. Also, see Classic Diesel Designs fuel pump and filter kit. https://classicdieseldesigns.com/collections/fuel-delivery/products/cdd-e-fuel-conversion-kit

A bus...is that on an E350 or E450 chassis? My fuel line list is for a pickup. I guess I should trace out my E350, not sure how it's set up, but pretty sure it's not the same.

    Part ID help

Mary, that first picture looks a lot like a factory fuel line running from tank to selector switch. Here's what a stock '91 should have: 1) From the injector pump in the front center of the engine, there should be a metal line running from the aft end up to the fuel filter, which sticks up...

I get that the difference between hunched and stooped isn't worth a lot of effort, but what good is the attic? It seems the fiberglass top adds a lot of wind resistance for not much gain.

I'm 6'4" too. Headroom inside is probably 5'8", so my wife can stand inside, but definitely not me. It wouldn't work to live in, but that's not our plan.
