    Holy cow! Ain't that the truth! Dad's '78 f150 was a bear to steer when the power steering went out. The old '59 IH 5 ton dump truck was easy to steer, if you had time for 20 turns lock to lock.

    I keep a trickle charger on the battery, and a 150W heater on the pan. I use 5W-40 oil. #1 diesel, with anti-gel, usually Power Service white bottle.

    Our old diesels will start and run just fine in those temps if you plug'em in for a couple of hours before.

    I use blue or purple loctite, almost never red. I'd be more likely to use anti seize here.

    I put a stud into the block in place of the aft fuel pump bolt. It's way easier to get a nut on that stud than to get the bolt started.

    I test each gallon of coolant after I mix it, I test each truck I'm driving a couple of times a year, and I still wind up tossing half the test strips when they get old. They're cheap enough it's not a big deal to get a fresh batch every year or so.

    I use the NAPAkool additive, and the NAPA test strips. Not sure if that's going to be available over there.

    So far every cheapie grease gun I've tried has been garbage. The made in USA ones have been a bit better, but are spendy and hard to find.

    When I blow up that photo, I can almost read the instructions. It'd be kinda cool to print it, laminate it, and put it on the bottom of the drawer in which I keep what few of those tools I have.

    There have been Stanadyne top caps for the cable shutoff. I wonder if any of them would fit our DB2 pumps?

    Haven't done it yet, but my plan is to put some stout angle iron on top of the bed sides and across the front, maybe 2x2x3/16 or so, then weld on some d-rings to the vertical side of the angle, which would be sticking down inside the bed. Here's a cross section through the top of the bed side:
