Rattling calipers... shim kit available? Updated - solution found!

Update! Ok, that shim kit didn't work worth a damn... the shims do not fit and even with the decent sheet metal equipment I have it was not worth using. After much research I went to plan B: I welded the worn area with 7018 AC to build it up and ground / filed to fit. Worked like a charm and...

Metal valve stems or rubber? Pro's and Con's

I use metal on my farm tractor but the shortest rubber valve stem (HP) on the truck. If you are off-roading or get a chunk of something in the rim it could break the metal one where the rubber one would flex. I have never lost a valve stem on my truck, shit! maybe I am now jinxed.

Simple GP controller mod to stop cycling after start

I have a turbo so I tee'd where the oil pressure sensor attaches to the turbo. If no turbo, then the sensor is at the rear of the block just behind the intake. You could tee into that or using another port elsewhere on the block (search for info, I forget where). edit...

Simple GP controller mod to stop cycling after start

No way I would consider a manual button... GUARANTEED that anyone else using it will burn up either the GP's or the starter. My wife drives it maybe twice a year ... so that is 16 GP's off the bat... add in a few other occasional drivers:frustrate... An operational controller will also...

Simple GP controller mod to stop cycling after start

I made a simple modification to stop the GP controller from cycling after engine start. I think the controller is programmed to keep GP's hot (cycling) for too long after starting for emissions BS; this puts a lot of wear on the controller relay. My mod is simple enough; I tee'd in an oil...

    U-Joint Counsel

I have bent those before, then I changed my press method so that never happens again. It is easy to press on the center of the joint but you are actually trying to move both cups. Now I press on the other yoke, only one cup moves (out). Once one cup is mostly out, flip it over and press the...

    Glow plug controller under turbo?

What truck? I am guessing 93 / 94... you probably want to remove the airbox but the turbo should stay.

Bought full exhaust and body mounts.

I put the Dynomax kit on my NA truck and hated it. Really interfered with my hilly-billy music. Once I put a turbo on it is perfect!

Rattling calipers... shim kit available? Updated - solution found!

I have ordered the kit from Rockauto (I even remembered to use the discount code from the sponsor this time :idiot: ) I will report back once this is installed... only concern so far is that this product causes cancer in California :flipa

Rattling calipers... shim kit available? Updated - solution found!

Edit: Kit did not fit - do not buy... read my followup below (post 15)! Ok, I think I found what I am looking for. This is exactly what I was going to make but this kit contains a variety of shim thicknesses. https://www.anythingtruck.com/product/270-E6891.html Unconfirmed cross reference...

Rattling calipers... shim kit available? Updated - solution found!

I put new slider things on last week. First rattle was while backing out of the garage. Enough to drive me to :drunk: My year of axle (93) the caliper slide bracket are a cast part of the knuckle (I have read that the older ones are actually bolted onto the knuckle so aftermarket conversions...

Rattling calipers... shim kit available? Updated - solution found!

The calipers are loose up and down; the metal slide things need to be tighter.

Rattling calipers... shim kit available? Updated - solution found!

My stinking calipers rattle  I change the retaining pins about twice a year but they really do not help. Is anyone aware of a shim kit that would tighten them up? I am referring to the <O> shaped metal things with rubber core that fit the caliper to the knuckle top and bottom. I have...

Starter for 94 turbo diesel 7.3

2nd vote for the Powermaster 9050. My truck is a DD also. When I ask a mouth-breather for parts I say it is for a '93... Not that it is necessarily his fault for not knowing the difference but why not remove all doubt.

    Glow plug controller relocation

I moved my GPC to the firewall. There is a pic in my "Turbo Tale" thread (link in my signature). I also rebuild the complete harness using fuse wire (basically wire with better insulation) and bullet connectors. Works perfect! I will also add that I have been using an upgraded solenoid...

Give me a damn Christmas starter recommendation.

After doing a lot of reading here I just installed a Powermaster 9050, awesome starter. It even came with a dyno report.

Aftermarket air filter-- how best to route CDR gasses?

Look at how I installed my CDR in my Turbo Tale thread. Very happy with the results. Basically it borrows the Banks style. I removed my vacuum pump and that freed up a nice spot for the CDR; I don't see a vacuum pump on your truck so my style would work perfect for you too. I forget the hose...

    1992 Fuel Heater O ring

I kept everything original and bought a new one. Total waste of money; should have deleted it and plugged the port. But it still does nothing like it was intended so I have that going for me.

    Exhaust Recommendation - 1988 F250 w/ Gen1 Banks Turbo

@BrianV Hey a local member! I am in the Greely / Osgoode area. I put the Dynomax exhaust on mine; with the turbo I like it. My turbo install thread has some info... not sure if the powerstroke kit is a better starting point.

Suspension choices with pros and cons

I think the D60 is worth it even JUST for the turning radius. D50 sucks donkey balls IMO. Two years with my D60 swap and I am still surprised occasionally. D50 is useless handling a trailer

    Coolant Leak from GP controller

No coolant going to the GP controller so it is either being sprayed from somewhere else or it isn't coolant. How much is spewing? Burning or steaming?

Why doesn't my pickup have anti-sway bars?

I think the reason is that you have leaf springs and a ride quality comparable to a lumber wagon. With practically no suspension why would you need sway bars?:rotflmao

    Fuel pump up grade

Something wrong with posting. It is changing my colon to a face. Well not my colon but you know.... Use Site_:_oilburners.net (Remove _) In Google search Might be info in tech section also.

    Fuel pump up grade

You need to try a search here for "fuel pump upgrade" and see what you find. Searching within the site is kind of crappy, try using Google. Add a Google filter site:oilburners to your search. Lots of info available and we can help you from there.

    E40d turbo dipstick ?

I made my own tube and extended my dipstick for my turbo install. I also considered buying a flexible kit... google for "flexible transmisison dipstick"... Summit has them. This would probably be the easiest solution; this doesn't explain why I did mine the hard way.:frustrate
