Knocking after injector change
Hello, I started it today and the knock is still there. Some white-ish smoke from the exhaust - could the ATF in the filter cause that? Actually, it's running a little rough at idle right now. I'm presuming the ATF is a factor there, perhaps some air in. Well, not sure where to go here...- Rupert8

ATF in. I ran it for thirty seconds, now sitting overnight, maybe a couple of nights depending on time. It will be like a new truck tomorrow..... right? Thanks for the tips. I'll post an update mañana once I've started it and driven it after this treatment.- Rupert8

I self-righteously lecture my kids about 'learning from mistakes' and then forget that myself when the dollars are spent and I'm cursing my decisions...... ATF? No, not tried. Possibly right on the $250 - but learning curves are sometimes spendy, unfortunately. Wish I hadn't spent it right now but, as I say - sometimes learn the hard way.... So! I had time to do some work yesterday. I took out the Pensacola injectors and installed some I got from Accurate Diesel (I took a $250 gamble and figured I'd have a spare set of injectors if one went south - I like having spares). I checked copper washers etc, vacuumed out the whole area...- Rupert8

Great. I see there are versions of the Engine Ears on Amazon but a lot don't use contact microphones so pick up a lot of ambient wind noise when driving (probably pretty good when stationary but that doesn't help me here....). If I can't figure things out I may invest in one. Think I'm going...- Rupert8

Thanks again for all the varied input - from all angles. Hugely helpful, makes things seem manageable.... I probed around with my shiny new stethoscope and all the injectors are sounding very similar. Some variation front to back but it is even on both sides so I'm guessing it's the acoustics...- Rupert8

Thank you. Well said - it does seem as though it knocks under load, not just at a higher RPM. (Steep learning curve here on Oil Burners, which is a good thing...) Hi, Thank you. Well, I have to rev it fairly hard when stationary to get it to knock. But it will knock. And when I'm idling down my steep driveway it doesn't knock, so I can be moving without it knocking I guess. But as soon as I start up the incline there it is. Does that rule out the...- Rupert8

Thanks, onetonjohn and IDIBRONCO. Couple questions: The truck sounds just fine when idling. If I crack an injector line am I going to hear enough to identify a bad injector? (Oil seems fine.) Hello all, I recently changed out the fuel injectors (code B) in my 6.9. Job went smoothly. Took it for a test run and it purred like a kitten (albeit a huge ugly diesel kitten). How best to replace high-pressure power steering hose....?
Thanks for all the input. Much appreciated. Think I'm going to give it a go through the wheel well and if it looks like it's going to be a real pain, 'just' remove the pump. How best to replace high-pressure power steering hose....?
