So I’ve got my motor out and getting ready to replace. But I was wondering what I should do about the foil insulation that wraps around the heater core box. It’s ripped and sagging due to rain.
Should I just taped it up with foil tape?
I’m curious where I’d find the gaskets to go behind the front plate? I have it all taken apart about to clean them up but I’m not sure my master kit has the front pan gasket.
So I’ve got the old motor out. I’m having some issues with the flex plates.
The new motor I got has a N/A flex plate and I believe it’s a turbo motor. I found a serial number stamped by the injection pump.

Thinking I have a turbo block and it’s not just got a turbo kit...
So I’ve got my turbo off my spare motor and the intake screen is totally warped and distorted from the previous owner. The turbo has a remanufactured stamp on it so that’s good I guess.
So...do I need this screen? I have the blown motor in the truck that I could get another screen from if...
I did find this when I searched for new plates now. And a bit more info regarding the differences.

Seems as factory turbo is an option. Maybe I should just inspect my plates and use the best one.
Wow, so what do people do? I have two motors and so two flex plates. One isn’t dead flat (wobbles while idles) and the one in the truck would miss and grind the plate every once in a while.
What is the difference and does it matter? My thinking is if the 7.3 Idi and 7.3 idit motors are...
So I’m getting ready to drop my motor in..figured I should get a new flex plate. I only see one listed on rock auto.
Outer diameter is 15.68”
Is that the right size?
Hey type4 I just prefer to talk to people. But yep I just found the factory install kit.
So regarding the water pump
..should I just buy the cheapest one? Or just go with Napa?
Well I just got the rear main seal done last night. I might as well change out the water pump.
The Napa one I can have tomorrow for $66 not sure the brand maybe try-flo
On rock auto I can get an AC Delhi for $66 bucks..what do you guys think? They also have one for $33 but never heard of...
I just took mine off again to clean it up and remove the rear main seal and cleaned off the old gasket. It looks like clear silicone was used for my pan. But then again it could also be clear rtv. I will use rtv.
My oil pan drain is stripped, hoping it’s just the screw.
You guys think the one puffing cylinder could be timing? Does it effect these trucks that much? Or like Jesus freak said..maybe it’s just junk working it’s way out
Is this the rear main seal I’ll need?

I’ll just keep moving forward then. I’ll check out a bearing cap..
I noticed the rear intake manifold has rtv sticking out...there was a slight leak, after investigating I noticed the bolts were all loose. I’d rather not pull the turbo and injector lines...could I clean it up and squeeze some...
How much do you think it’d cost to rebuild one of these at home? I know that depends on what’s wrong with mine..
What about the puffing smoke..could that just be timing?
Rainbow colored crankshaft flanges?
—perhaps it identifies as a gay-camshaft?
So..after seizing my 7.3 idit I picked one up for $650 bucks and a long drive. I got it home and have it hanging from a chain. I got it running on the chain and it’s puffing on the drivers side manifold..one big white puff when one of the cylinders fire as it idles. Other than that it runs...
I’m really leaning towards just finding the right replacement motor. I’ll rebuild the turbo before hand.
This being said I’ve kind of out grown the truck and it’s purpose. I may sell the truck with a replacement engine or replace it and sell it to my folks. A dump truck would be pretty handy...
So I had what I thought was a seized motor after a weird turbo squealing and rough idle...there is oil all over the back of the drivers side motor..from start up to seize I drove a total of 2 maybe 3 miles...truck was slowly running out of power and I kept giving it more until it shut down and...
