    Reviving a 1990 F250

Oil Pan is on my list. Last several engines I have pulled oil pans all got Permatex Ultra Copper. Not one has leaked. So I will be doing the same thing to this one.

    Reviving a 1990 F250

I was planning on resealing the the oil cooler, just forgot to write it above. I will look into the install dry rear seal, any brand better than others? I also plan on new engine mounts. Is there a brand better than others? Also I want to install a solid flywheel kit. Anyone have any...

    Reviving a 1990 F250

Update... I picked up a running parts truck. The engine seems to run great. Coolant looks old but no oil from what I can see and there is no coolant in the oil. truck has 140,000ish miles on it. I will be pulling the engine in the next two weeks. What should I look at doing with it while it is...

    7.3 idi cavitation

I'm heading to look at a engine today and just wanted to know what cylinders tend to suffer from cavitation more? Going to do a compression test on a few cylinders and want to make sure I check know problem ones.

    1993 F-350 Project

Looks like the body is in pretty good shape aside from paint. What are your plans or it?

I guess I will give it a try. Since I have to put it in from the glowplug hole and let it sit in the cylinders what would the preferred product be? Seafoam, Marval, PB Blaster, If I didn't have to go to California to get it I would use the magical Unicorn Pee.... But just the thought of...

    Reviving a 1990 F250

Question for the experianced IDI guys... I have been told by a few people that the rings could be stuck and I should try soaking the rings by putting a cleaner in the cyclinders and letting it soak for a few days. I am sceptical of this having any chance of working. Anyone here have any...

    Reviving a 1990 F250

Wow... that doesn't look like a fun last ride. So should I disconnect and drop the trans under the truck or try pulling it out of the front with the engine? Not sure if my engine lift will handle both at one time.

    Reviving a 1990 F250

I was definetly planning to pull the core support first and pull the engine out of the front verses picking it up that high to get it out. I have the ZF-5 trans and was planning on leaving it in place. anything special I need to pay attention to with that?

I will look into the wrenches, if I don't already have them I will get them. I am looking at buying the whole parts truck because it has a good radiator support that I need for my truck. Plus I'm sure some other things I need too.

    Reviving a 1990 F250

I have pulled engines out of land rovers, Mercedes, BMWs and jeeps. I just like to do my research and try to be wise enough to take the advice of those who have done it before. What does the fan take to get it off?

    Reviving a 1990 F250

I found a used engine that the guys says runs, it is currently in a truck. I am going to try to see the truck this weekend if possible. So would it be out of line to ask to do a compression test on the engine? I really want to know the condition before I buy it. I did a search on the forum for...

I am leaning in the direction of finding another one. I don't have the funds to do a rebuild so I will start looking for a used one.

    Reviving a 1990 F250

    So a update here, I did a compression test with what I would call not great results. Cylinder 1 = 165 2 = 180 3 = 180 4 = couldn't get the fitting connected under the hard lines. 5 = 205 6 = 250 7 = 200 8 = 195 Doing the compression test was done as follows: Disconect the white...

Pastorjeep, That's a very generous offer. I have a few more things I am going to try and then I may take you up on the offer. Would be nice to have someone look at it that is familiar with the IDI engines.

The 8" of cable that hangs down at the front bumper, the jacket was all crumbling. I could look further back and see if I can splice some new cable in. But my plan tomorrow is to charge the batteries again and rewire the glowplug system and see if that works.

    Reviving a 1990 F250

Ohhhh well after seeing yours I feel way better about mine I will work everything around a bit and then put it back together. I was going to plug it in this morning like Wes said to and I went to grab the plug and realized it is totally dry rotted. So I am going to work on the glow plug system...

So I opened up the pump and it looks dirty compared to pictures I have see of other pumps that were opened up. How do I clean it properly without messing anything up?

    Reviving a 1990 F250

Ohh don't worry my OCD wont let me get dirt in the pump. I will clean the pump very well and cover everything around it so I cant get dirt from something else in it and then I also use a ridiculous amount of gloves when doing stuff just to make sure I don't contaminate something (this habit...

    Reviving a 1990 F250

I have access to a compression test kit and can do that when required. I will plug the block heater in tomorrow morning and let it warm up for a while. While I wait I will pull the top off the pump and look at the governor and make sure it isn't sticky. then I will try starting it with my...

    Reviving a 1990 F250

I definitely want to fix the glow plug system and get it working. Long term I will replace it with Wes's system. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for a push button system so I can wire this up properly so it doesn't melt again?

wow lots or stuff to respond to. I really appreciate all the input because this truck is starting to drive me crazy (my fault for buying a cheap one I know) Lets see if I can answer some questions. The batteries are new and charged the day before I worked on the truck ( I did have them tested...
