Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
Very thankful for a group of people that come together for the common good of keeping our old trucks running and keeping each other from giving up on them ! God bless you all and enjoy family, friends and food tomorrow.
I did that when I pulled my donor engine. Pulled the engine and the transmission (E4OD) at one time. I pulled core support and bumper. I did it by myself and it was no fun. I definitely won't do it again that way if I ever have to.
I may learn my lessons the hard way... but I do learn them
My thought was that if the filter housing bypass port was plugged with the gauge installed there and the only line coming off the filter is the IP line. If the filter head is at 5psi shouldn't the only other line coming off of it also be 5 psi? I could also plug the bypass with a standard plug...
I didn't think the caps could handle much pressure so I really didn't plan on going that way. My fuel pump will also fill a gallon in about a min (it's a 110 gph pump).
Just out of curiosity what would the problem be with having the regulator just before the filter? It would just mean that the...
So I am going to install my fuel pressure regulator right before the fuel filter in the engine bay. The regulator has a bypass, should I tie that into the first injector that has the return line coming from the filter or should I tee into the return line off of the IP?
I picked up 4 cans from my local Napa this evening. I am going to run 2 cans through and see what the recirculated fuel looks like at the end, and if it is not fairly clean then I think I will empty the dirty cleaner and run one of the other cans and then let it sit for a while. Probably not...
I will look into that for sure. I use Liqui-Moly products in all of my vehicles aside from the ford and they make quality products. I have not heard of the diesel purge but I will very happily give it a try.
I don't doubt at all that the metering valve could be sticking. The truck has what I assume is a mostly full tank of old diesel that I have added a fair bit of power service cleaner to. It did start running slightly better after the ATF treatment through the fuel filter. Perhaps I will pull the...
The Mr gasket 105p cam with a pressure regulator that has a bypass. Would you use that one and hook the bypass up to the existing return system? Or is there a better regulator to use?
It had a Mr Gasket 105p that the previous owner had secured to the frame with a shoelace. So I bought another of the same pump and installed it properly with some bolts.
It has the bronco tank with a sump that feed to a pre filter/water separator and then the pump.
It's been a while. But I did the ATF a couple of months ago and it definitely seemed to make the truck run a bit smoother. But it didn't fix the stall issue. So I figured that the very leaky electric fuel pump was probably pumping air in with the fuel and causing a issue, so I replaced the fuel...
I don't believe he was referring to you buying a 2wd truck, but rather buying a steering column out of a 2wd truck to swap into whatever truck you buy. The 2wd truck columns in theory see less stress and strain.
I would buy the best truck that meets your needs and then fix the problems on that...
I have pulled a 7.3 IDI and a E4OD at the same time with the core support removed. It wasn't fun fighting the transmission and if given the option again I would definitely separate them but overall it took about 6 hrs all together. When I pulled my 7.3 out of my ZF5 truck I disconnected the...
I can do the ATF trick. I have a electric fuel pump at the tank on the frame, won't the electric pump just pump the atf back to the tank via the bypass versus fill the injector pump? The pre filter / water separator on the frame at pump and the engine bay filter/ water separator are both new...
Yeah I have no idea how old the fuel is in this truck aside from the fresh 5 gallons of diesel I added and I treated that kinda heavy with power service cleaner. I guess I will just do laps around the neighborhood and see if it clears up some.
Truck:
1990 F250 engine has 130k and supposedly had a injection pump around 100k (what previous owner said but had no paperwork) I resealed this engine and put it in my truck that had no compresion. I put the pump back as close as I could to where it was when I took it off for the reseal (I know...
I cant answer any of your real questions because those will only be known when you take things apart again. But I would start with draining the rest of the coolant and then flushing the block with diesel to help remove the coolant. after a first flush with just diesel I would do a 50/50...
I have used the aluminum brazing rods on several projects, and they work great. But that being said. I wouldn't want to trust two parts brazed together on the transmission, especially the slave cylinder mounting ear. I would have it welded while the trans is out, so you don't have to remove the...
I am pretty sure I have a flexplate and the spacer for the E4OD that I pulled from my parts truck. If I have the spacer its yours if you want it, just pay shipping.
The mothers aluminum polish is a very light metal polish because of how soft aluminum is. I have polished several set of plastic lenses including the ones on my 1990 f250. I use with great success the turtle wax heavy duty rubbing compound followed by the polishing compound, and they come out...
The purpose of airing down is to create a wider foot print below each tire. So start airing down till the tire starts to flatten at the bottom a bit then try driving it and see how it works and then fine tune the pressure till you get something that works. an exact pressure is vehicle/load/type...
I have had a 7.3 IDI complete engine on this stand for over a year and it has not had any problems, It even took a bumpy road trip for about 5 miles on a bouncy trailer and did just fine.
